Build a housing and roommate matching app
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe the housing and roommate matching app you need: student profiles, compatibility rules, mutual contact reveal, staff-vetted listings, and landlord payments on your own Stripe account.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a student housing product you configure. It’s an AI app builder that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the matching rules, the screens, the permissions, and the payment flow if you charge landlords. What you get is a real app that’s yours. You can run it on your own accounts, use your own Stripe account for listing fees, and change it later by asking. It isn’t a template.
On this page, that app is a housing and roommate board for students, staff, and vetted landlords. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one education and housing example.
Why August breaks the housing spreadsheet
A university international office may need to help hundreds of incoming students find rooms before the semester starts. A shared spreadsheet and a public listings group are weak tools for that job: contact details spread too early, scams get mixed with real listings, and students discover too late that they live very differently.
Kliv builds a board with lifestyle profiles, mutual-interest contact reveal, and a staff review queue for landlord listings. The office’s rules are enforced by the app instead of by inbox speed.
The board behind the board
Students see a simple matching board. Underneath it, four records do the work.
Seeker profiles
Budget band, move-in date, quiet hours, guests, cooking habits, and desk needs are stored on the profile. Other seekers see a first name and how someone lives; contact details are protected separately.
Vetted listings
A landlord post lands in a staff review queue before students can see it. Rejected listings never appear on the board.
Mutual matches
Interest can be one-way and silent. Contact details unlock only when both seekers show interest, and that rule is checked whenever a page or search reads the data.
The arrival clock
Profiles include move-in dates, so staff can sort by urgency as the semester gets closer.
An example: Tomás’s university housing search
Here’s how one student might use a housing app built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own student group, listing rules, and contact policy.
He creates a profile from the admission packet
Tomás follows the housing link and adds his €450 budget, early-riser routine, cooking habits, and need for a desk that fits two monitors.
Matches show lifestyle before contact details
The app shows compatible seekers by first name and habits. Tomás flags two possible roommates, and one flags him back the same evening.
Contact opens only on mutual interest
When the match is mutual, the thread opens and contact details can be revealed. Until then, the phone number stays sealed.
A listing appears only after staff review
A two-bedroom near north campus was posted by a landlord the office vetted in March. It cleared the review queue before students could see it.
The office works one dashboard
Questions, viewing schedules, and staff answers happen in the app instead of across hundreds of separate inboxes.
Closed profiles leave useful history
After the lease is signed, the matched profiles close and the office keeps the history for next year’s housing season.
Describe what you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so include the profile fields, matching rules, contact rules, listing review process, and any fees. Here are three examples:
Campus roommate board
Profiles, mutual reveal, and vetted landlords.
“Build a roommate matching board for our university international office. Students create lifestyle profiles with budget, move-in date, quiet hours, cooking habits, guest habits, and desk needs. Contact details unlock only after mutual interest, landlord listings require staff approval before publication, and landlords pay a $40 listing fee on our own Stripe account.”
Co-living matcher
Compatibility-ranked applicants for shared houses.
“Build a roommate matching app for our co-living operator. Applicants fill lifestyle profiles, get compatibility-ranked matches for houses with four to six bedrooms, and apply for rooms together with their matched group. Staff should approve every group before an offer is sent.”
Intern housing hub
Seasonal matching for a summer cohort.
“Build a housing board for our 180-person summer intern cohort. Match roommates by office location, internship dates, budget, and quiet hours, and let HR vet sublet listings before interns can contact the landlord.”
What keeps the wrong listings off the board
The review queue is the door. New listings arrive in moderation. Staff approve or reject with a note, and approval is the only path to the student board.
The mutual-reveal rule lives on the data. Contact details are rows that become readable only after mutual interest. A crafted request gets the same empty result as the page.
Search can use student language. Seekers can ask for a quiet room near the north labs with people who cook, and search can match the meaning of profiles and listings.
Students can stay free while landlords pay. A $40 landlord listing fee can run through checkout on the office’s own Stripe account. Students never see a payment screen.
Listings are part of a larger property stack. The full property pattern is covered on the real-estate solutions page.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI app builder. You describe the housing and roommate matching app you need, and it builds the real web app and its rules.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Profiles, matching logic, contact reveal, listing review, staff dashboards, and payment rules are built for your program.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can add profile fields, change the compatibility logic, adjust fees, or change the staff review process by asking.
How do we keep scam listings out?
Listings do not appear until staff approve them from the review queue. A rejected post never renders for students.
When do students see contact details?
Only after mutual interest, if that is the rule you choose. Until both sides opt in, a profile can show first name and habits without exposing a phone number or email.
Can we charge landlords but keep it free for students?
Yes. Landlords can pay a $40 listing fee through your own Stripe account while student accounts stay free.
Do students need their own Stripe accounts?
No. If there is a landlord fee, landlords pay by card. Students do not need Stripe accounts.
Does Kliv take a cut of listing fees?
No. Payments run through your own Stripe account. Card processing costs are between you and Stripe.
Can staff see urgent students first?
Yes. Move-in dates and other profile fields can sort the staff dashboard so the most urgent cases appear first.
Will the board show up in search?
Public pages can be prerendered and readable to search engines, with a sitemap generated automatically where public listing pages exist.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.
What happens after everyone finds housing?
Profiles can close at lease signing while the history stays available for next year’s staff and reporting.
