Build a student portal and grading management system
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your grading policy — standards, mastery bands, evidence, retakes, parent publishing, and report cards — and it builds the portal.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a school information system with one fixed grading approach — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the database, grading rules, screens, parent access, reports, and admin tools. What you get is a real web app that’s yours, on your own domain, and you can change it later by asking.
On this page, that app is a student portal and grading system. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; school portals are one example.
Why build your own student portal?
Many gradebooks assume points, percentages, and averages. Some schools grade differently. They may collect evidence against standards, use mastery bands, and let a retake replace earlier evidence because the handbook says the newest evidence matters most.
Kliv builds the portal around the policy you describe. Standards, bands, retake windows, publish rules, parent views, and report cards all read from the same records.
Standards, evidence, and report cards
A school year stays consistent when these records agree.
Students and sections
Each student is tied to sections, teachers, and family accounts. Parents are scoped to their own children.
Standards and bands
Your standards carry strand, grade level, and the mastery bands teachers score against.
The evidence log
Quizzes, projects, and retakes land as dated evidence against a standard. The report-card band is computed by your rule.
The publish switch
Teachers can enter draft scores. Families see entries only when the teacher publishes them.
Report cards
January and June report cards can be generated from the term’s rows, including narrative comments, then archived per student.
An example: Corinne’s standards-based K-8 school
Here’s how one school might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own grading policy, parent view, and report-card rules.
The first evidence is recorded
A seventh grader scores a 2 on operations with fractions in October. It stays in the evidence log as the first entry, not as a percentage that controls the rest of the year.
The retake window is enforced
In November, the student books a retake inside the allowed window. When the window is closed, the record says so.
The newest evidence updates the band
The retake scores a 3. The band updates because Corinne’s school uses a most-recent-evidence rule, while the earlier 2 remains in the history.
Parents see it when teachers publish
On publish day, the family sees the entries, retake, and teacher comment from the same screen the teacher used.
The report card comes from the log
In January, the report card is generated from evidence rows, bands, comments, and attendance, then archived on the student’s record.
Describe your grading policy
Kliv builds from your description, so include the grading approach, rules, visibility, imports, reports, and family communication.
Standards-based K-8 portal
Mastery bands, evidence, retakes, and parent publishing.
“Build a standards-based gradebook and parent portal for our 240-student K-8 school with four mastery bands, evidence entries per standard, a most-recent-evidence rule for retakes, teacher-controlled publishing, and January and June report cards.”
High school gradebook
Weighted categories and transcript-ready terms.
“Build a student portal for our high school with weighted categories of 40% tests, 30% assignments, 20% projects, and 10% participation, teacher-published marks, GPA calculation, and transcript-ready term summaries.”
Missing work digest
Assignment states and a weekly family email.
“Build a student portal where assignments track submitted, late, and missing states, teachers can add comments, and parents get a Friday email digest of anything still open for their own children.”
Three rules doing the quiet work
Privacy is scoped at the row. A parent signs in and every query is limited to their own children: sections, evidence, and report cards.
Digests run on schedule. A Friday missing-work email can read the same evidence log teachers use, so families hear while there is still time to act.
Families can use familiar sign-in. Parents can use Google sign-in or passkeys, while staff accounts can require two-factor. Roles decide who can read and write.
If tuition, enrollment, or paid courses are next, Kliv for course businesses covers that wider case.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a school, it can build a student portal around your grading rules and parent access policy.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds your standards, evidence records, grading calculations, parent views, and reports.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. Ask for changes to bands, report-card wording, retake rules, or parent views, and Kliv updates the app.
Can we keep our exact grading policy?
Yes. Bands, retake windows, most-recent-evidence rules, best-of rules, and thresholds can be written into the app.
What do parents see, and when?
They see what your policy grants, when teachers publish. Draft entries stay hidden.
Can we bring in current students and grades?
Yes. You can start from roster and gradebook exports, then verify how they map into students, sections, and evidence entries.
Can report cards be generated from the gradebook?
Yes. Report cards can be generated from the same evidence, band, comment, and attendance rows teachers used all term.
Can parents see only their own children?
Yes. Family access is scoped in the database, not only filtered on the page.
Can teachers publish at different times?
Yes. Publishing can be a rule on entries or sections, so draft work stays draft until released.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The portal can run on your own domain.
Whose data is it?
The school’s. Records live in your app’s database and can be exported in usable formats.
