What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t spreadsheet software — it’s an AI that builds software for you.

You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the database, the logic, the screens, imports, and user permissions. What you get is a real web app that’s yours, on your own domain, and you can change it later by asking.

On this page, that app starts from a spreadsheet. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; replacing a business workbook is one example.

Why build from your spreadsheet?

The spreadsheet may be valuable because it already matches how your business works. It has the columns people know, formulas someone trusts, and tabs that grew with the job.

The problem is emailing copies, hiding tabs, chasing versions, and asking people to work from stale numbers. Kliv keeps the structure that matters and builds the missing parts around it: logins, live data, rules, and records.

Where each tab ends up

The workbook’s duties become records with rules.

The availability tab

Each row becomes a plant record with cultivar, pot size, ready week, and count. When the count reaches zero, the row stops taking orders and can show the next ready week.

The customer tab

Customers become accounts. Each signs in to the same live list, with delivery days and negotiated terms attached to their account.

Orders

An order reduces the count when it lands and records who ordered and when. The question of who got the last stock is answered by the rows.

Formula logic

The margin formula becomes server-side logic that is typed, readable, and applied the same way every time.

The pick list

A delivery run can generate a pick list from the week’s orders, printed in bench-walking order.

An example: Piet’s wholesale plant nursery

Here’s how one business might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own workbook, users, columns, and rules.

01

The workbook is imported

Kliv reads the tabs and builds tables from them. Three thousand plant rows arrive with their column names intact.

02

Customers see live counts

A landscaper signs in on Tuesday and sees Tuesday’s stock, not the workbook that was emailed on Monday.

03

Orders update the stock immediately

A customer orders 40 hornbeams from a phone in a client’s garden. The count changes for every other customer at the same time.

04

Sold-out rows follow your rule

An hour later someone else wants hornbeams. The row offers the next ready week and a substitute Piet chose, instead of accepting an order the nursery cannot fill.

05

The Monday email can still exist

The list can still go out every Monday, but now it is generated from live rows and links customers into the app. There are no stale copies to reconcile.

Describe the workbook you want to replace

Kliv builds from your description, so include the tabs, columns, formulas, users, permissions, and what should happen when a row changes.

Wholesale availability list

Live stock counts and customer orders.

“Build a web app from our nursery availability spreadsheet with 3,000 plant rows, live stock counts, customer logins for 80 landscapers, order history per account, orders that reduce counts immediately, and a printable pick list for each delivery day.”

Equipment hire tracker

Item calendars and off-hire dates.

“Build a web app to replace the spreadsheet we use for scaffolding hire, with a calendar per scaffold set, customer accounts, booking start and end dates, off-hire dates that free stock automatically, and a report of items due back this week.”

kliv.dev

Commission workbook

Sales reps, deals, and readable payout rules.

“Build a web app from our sales commission spreadsheet where each rep signs in to see only their own deals and payouts, managers see all reps, and the commission rules are editable server-side logic with an audit trail.”

What the file never had

Every change has an author. Instead of one “last modified” timestamp, each row change records who made it and when.

Permissions are enforced by the database. Customers see their own orders and terms. Office users see everything they need. The rule is applied to the rows, not hidden in a tab.

Everyone can work at once. Eighty customers and the yard team can use the list at the same time without conflict copies.

The app’s source syncs with a Git repository the business owns, and the data can be exported. For more on internal systems like this, see the internal tool the inbox was impersonating.

Common questions

What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a spreadsheet app, it turns your workbook into a real database-backed app with screens, rules, and logins.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. Your tabs and columns become tables and fields, and Kliv builds the workflows around them.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. Ask for new fields, different permissions, imports, reports, or rules, and Kliv updates the app.

Do we have to rebuild everything from scratch?

No. The workbook is the starting point. Tabs become tables, columns are kept where they still make sense, and formulas worth keeping are rebuilt as readable server-side logic.

Who can see what once it’s online?

Access is controlled per row. Customers can see their own orders and terms; office users can see the wider data.

Can several people use it at the same time?

Yes. The app uses a database, so many users can work from the same live records at once.

Can formulas be kept?

Yes. Important formulas can become server-side functions that are readable, versioned, and applied consistently.

Can we still export the data?

Yes. The rows are yours and can be exported when you need them.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. The app can run on your own domain.

Can I move off Kliv later?

Yes. The app’s source syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull.

Do I need a separate admin tool?

No. The app includes the admin screens you need to edit records, manage users, and run the workflow.

Turn the workbook into a working app

Give Kliv the spreadsheet and describe who uses it, what each person may see, and what each row should do. The columns stay where they matter; the copies go away.
