Build a business directory and listings site
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe the directory you want — listings, owners, categories, review moderation, search alerts, and paid placement — and it builds the app around it.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a directory plugin with fixed fields — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the listing database, owner accounts, moderation queues, search pages, checkout, and admin screens. What you get is a real app that’s yours. You can use it, change it later by asking, and run payments on your own Stripe account. It isn’t a template.
On this page, that app is a business directory and listings site. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.
Why build your own directory?
National directory sites rank everyone, know very little, and sell top spots broadly. A useful local directory can be different because someone stands behind the list: which trades serve which towns, which reviews are real, and which categories matter in the region.
Kliv builds the directory around your taxonomy, vetting rules, and revenue plan. Listings, owners, reviews, categories, saved searches, and featured placement live as records in your own application.
What the directory knows
The directory keeps records with rules about who can edit or publish them.
Listings and owners
Every listing has hours, service area, license info, and photos. Once claimed, it belongs to its owner’s sign-in, and that owner can edit only that listing.
Regional categories
Use categories that fit your area: excavation, timber framing, snow plowing, dock repair, or anything else your directory needs.
Reviews and moderation
Every review can wait in a queue until you approve or reject it. Nothing appears on a listing unseen if that is your rule.
Featured placement
Top-of-category placement is a subscription in the catalog. The badge appears when payment clears and ends when the subscription lapses.
Saved searches and alerts
A homeowner can save “masons near Kingston” and get an email when a matching listing arrives.
An example: Len’s Hudson Valley trades directory
Here’s how one directory owner might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own region, categories, listing rules, moderation process, and prices.
He seeds the first listings
Len imports 400 businesses he already knows by name, trade, and town. Unclaimed listings are sparse but useful, so the directory has value on day one.
A contractor claims a profile
An excavation contractor verifies the business email, signs in, and updates photos, hours, and service area. Every other listing stays out of reach.
Reviews wait for a decision
A homeowner writes a five-star review about a drainage job and adds photos. The review stays in Len’s moderation queue until he approves it.
Paid placement follows payment
The contractor buys featured placement for $29 a month. When a card expires later, retries and recovery emails run; if payment still lapses, the featured badge comes off while the free listing remains.
Search can find the listing
Each listing is a prerendered page, so searches like “excavation contractor Kingston NY” can find and read the directory page.
Describe what you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include categories, claim rules, moderation, search, and payments. Here are three to build on:
Regional trades directory
Claimed listings, moderated reviews, and featured placement.
“Build a trades directory for my county with categories for excavation, roofing, masonry, timber framing, snow plowing, and dock repair. Contractors should claim listings by verified business email, reviews should require my approval before publishing, and featured placement should cost $29 per month per category.”
Wedding vendor directory
Portfolios, price filters, and inquiry tracking.
“Build a wedding vendor directory with listings for photographers, florists, venues, caterers, and planners. Each vendor should have a gallery, price band, service area, and an inquiry button that records which couples contacted which vendors.”
Farm stand finder
Seasonal listings and weekly digests.
“Build a farm stand directory where farms update what is in stock each week, visitors filter by product and distance, and a Friday email digest lists strawberries, corn, eggs, flowers, and other seasonal items near each subscriber.”
How it comes together
Revenue is part of the app. Featured placement, premium listings, and category sponsorships can be products with prices on your own Stripe account. A lapse ends placement on schedule because the badge and subscription are connected.
Moderation is a workflow. Reviews, new listings, and photo uploads can route through approve or reject before they become visible. The directory’s credibility is a process, not a hope.
Search is the front door. The sitemap regenerates as listings arrive, each listing page is served prerendered to crawlers, and a per-page SEO audit can show which categories need work.
A directory is often the first move in a wider local app: bookings, storefronts, service-area tools, and more. The local-business page covers that wider ground.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a directory, that can mean listings, owner accounts, moderation, search, alerts, payments, and admin screens.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the listing database, permissions, workflows, and pages for your directory. It is not a generic directory theme.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can ask for changes such as new categories, a different claim flow, paid sponsorships, or a new review rule.
How does a business claim its listing?
A business can verify an email or phone you hold on the seeded listing, then sign in. From then on, that account can edit that listing and no other.
Can I charge for listings?
Yes. You can offer free base listings and paid featured placement through checkout on your own Stripe account.
How do I keep fake reviews out?
Reviews can enter a moderation queue and appear only after you approve them. You can see the reviewer, history, and listing before deciding.
What happens when a featured business stops paying?
Retries and recovery emails can run first. If the subscription still lapses, the featured badge and placement end while the free listing remains.
Will listing pages show up in search?
Yes. Listing pages can be prerendered for search engines and included in a generated sitemap.
Do customers need Stripe accounts?
No. Businesses paying for placement just pay by card. Stripe is how the money reaches your account.
Does Kliv take a cut?
No. Payments run on your own Stripe account. Card processing fees are between you and Stripe.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The directory can run on your own domain.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, and your listing data can be exported.
Do I need a separate CMS?
No. The directory is its own admin for listings, categories, moderation, placement, and page text.
