Build your own billing tools
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe how you bill clients, and it builds real billing tools for subscriptions, usage, projects, invoices, dunning, tax, and client portals on your own Stripe account.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t an invoicing product you configure. It’s an AI app builder that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the client records, catalog, subscriptions, meters, invoices, tax handling, dunning, portal, and reports. What you get is a real app that’s yours. You can run payments through your own Stripe account, use your own domain, and keep changing it by asking for changes. It isn’t a template with a billing screen attached.
On this page, that app is a set of billing tools built around your price list. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; billing is one it handles well.
Why build your own billing tools?
Many companies charge in more than one way: per seat, by usage, by project, by retainer, or by a device count. Generic invoicing tools may handle one of those cleanly and force the rest into manual work.
Kliv builds billing around your price list. Seats, meters, projects, taxes, dunning, and client portals can all use the same client records and Stripe account, so month-end billing does not become a spreadsheet day.
What the billing system knows
The records behind an invoice that should not need a correction email.
Client record
Organization, contacts, plan, seat count, and tax ID live on the client record. Everything billed to that client hangs from it.
Per-seat subscriptions
Twenty-two seats at $45 a month renew automatically. Add three seats mid-cycle, and the charge can prorate from that day.
Metered lines
Backup gigabytes or extra hours can report as they are used. The invoice line uses the same count the app recorded.
Project invoices
A one-time project, such as a firewall migration, can invoice on completion and appear in the same client history as subscriptions.
Client portal
Each client signs in to their own invoices, seat count, and card on file, and no other client’s records.
An example: Priya’s managed-IT billing
Here’s how one business might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own plans, usage meters, projects, taxes, and client portal.
Usage accrues during the month
Backup jobs report gigabytes as they finish. By the 28th, the meter already holds the number that will print on the invoice.
A growing client is prorated
An accounting firm adds four employees on the 11th. Four new seats join the subscription that day, and the next invoice explains the prorated amount.
Invoices combine every charge
On each client’s cycle date, seats, storage usage, and completed projects land on one invoice with the client’s tax ID and the required tax calculated.
Failed payments get recovery steps
A dental group’s card fails on the 1st. Kliv retries on schedule and sends a card-update link; by the 4th the payment is fixed without a phone call.
Credits are approved on purpose
A client disputes a project line. Priya issues a credit against next month after approval by a named person, and the decision is logged.
Describe what you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include plans, amounts, usage meters, tax, dunning, portal access, and exceptions. Here are three to build on:
MSP seat billing
Seats, storage meters, project work, and a client portal.
“Build a billing system for our managed-IT company. Clients pay $45 per seat per month, backup storage bills at $0.18 per gigabyte used, one-off projects invoice when marked complete, failed cards retry for 10 days, and each client portal shows invoices, seat count, usage, and card on file.”
Retainer plus hours
A base retainer with metered overage.
“Build billing for our design studio. Each client pays a $2,400 monthly retainer that includes 20 hours, extra hours bill at $95 each, hours are itemized on every invoice, and clients can see remaining included hours in their portal.”
Equipment lease billing
Monthly device fees with tax by state.
“Build a billing tool for leased equipment. Customers pay $18 per device per month, sales tax is calculated by state, annual contracts get a 12% discount, and branded invoices email on the first of each month with a link to update payment details.”
How it comes together
One catalog can hold every charge. Subscriptions, one-time projects, meters, bundles, and promotion windows can all be prices in one catalog, checked out and invoiced through your own Stripe account.
Tax does not need to be a spreadsheet tab. You register the jurisdictions where you owe tax, checkout calculates what each client’s locale requires, B2B clients can add tax IDs that print on invoices, and the quarterly report can come out file-ready.
You can rehearse before real money moves. In the Sandbox, billing can run on test payments and simulated time: renewals, failed cards, recovery emails, credits, and refunds before Stripe is connected.
The portal ends invoice attachments. Clients can read invoices, update cards, and see their seat count or usage in the same app you use for billing.
This page is the short tour. The commerce engine underneath — catalogs, entitlements, dunning, approvals, and tax — has its own page at the commerce page.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI app builder that creates custom web apps from a description. For billing, it builds subscriptions, meters, invoices, dunning, tax handling, and client portals around how you charge.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the database, payment flow, invoice logic, client portal, and reports for your price list.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can ask for changes later, such as adding a plan, changing a rate, adding a meter, or changing invoice fields.
Whose Stripe account does the money move through?
Yours. Kliv drives checkout, invoicing, retries, and billing logic against your own Stripe account.
Does Kliv take a cut of payments?
No. Kliv does not price your app per client and does not take a cut of payments. Payments run through your own Stripe account, and card processing costs are between you and Stripe.
Do my customers need their own Stripe accounts?
No. Customers just pay by card and can manage their card from the client portal if you allow it.
Can different clients be on different terms?
Yes. One client can be annual prepaid, another monthly per seat, and another on a grandfathered rate. Those terms live on the client’s subscription.
What happens when a client stops paying?
Dunning retries the card and sends recovery emails on your schedule. If you gate access on payment, the entitlement closes after your grace period and reopens when payment succeeds.
Can we import existing clients and plans?
Yes. Clients, seat counts, plan assignments, and billing history can load as rows in your database.
Can customers manage their own billing?
Yes. A client portal can let them update cards, read invoices, and see seats or usage.
Can it handle tax and VAT IDs?
Yes. You tell Kliv where you owe tax, and invoices can include tax calculations and customer tax IDs.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.
