    Build a journal club platform

Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your journal club — the voted queue, uploaded papers, summaries, threads, archive, and dues — and it builds the working platform.

    What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t a journal club product you subscribe to — it’s an AI that builds software for you.

You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the logic, the screens, the member areas, and the payment flow when you need one. What you get is a real web app that’s yours. You can run it on your own domain, connect your own accounts, and change it later by asking. It isn’t a template.

On this page, that app is a journal club platform. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; a paid reading group with papers, threads, and memberships is one example.

Why build your own journal club platform?

A journal club often depends on the same few organizers. Someone picks the paper, someone writes the summary, someone collects the discussion, and the record disappears into email or chat.

Forum software does not understand papers, endpoints, PDFs, or votes. Course platforms assume a fixed curriculum. Kliv builds the club around the objects it actually uses: a voted queue, a paper, a summary, a discussion thread, an archive, and dues that keep the doors open.

The club, with the right records

Every paper keeps the material around it: the vote, the summary, the thread, and the archive record.

    The queue

Nominations wait with their votes. The next paper is chosen by count, not by whoever asked most loudly.

    The summary

An agent drafts a structured summary from the uploaded PDF: design, enrollment, primary endpoint, effect size, and interval. The presenter signs off before it posts.

    The thread

Each paper has one permanent thread. Comments can pin to a figure or section, so a concern about Table 3 stays with Table 3.

    The membership

Readers can follow along; paid members can nominate and discuss. Current dues are checked by the pages, not tracked by hand.

    The archive

Every paper keeps its summary, thread, and tally. “Didn’t we read this already?” becomes a lookup with a date.

An example: Suvi’s Hard Endpoints club

Here’s how one journal club might use a platform built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own field, membership, paper rules, and review process.

    01

    Members choose the next paper

A sports-medicine resident nominates an RCT on eccentric loading versus injection for tennis elbow. Forty-one votes later, it becomes next week’s paper.

    02

The PDF becomes a draft summary

Suvi uploads the winning PDF. The agent drafts from that file only: 240 enrolled, 12 weeks, and the primary endpoint with its interval. Suvi trims a line and approves it.

    03

    Discussion starts before the meeting

By Wednesday there are forty comments. A physio pins a question to Figure 2, and another member answers by citing the supplement.

    04

The live hour starts with the hard parts

Because the thread already handled warm-up, Thursday’s call goes straight to the two disagreements that matter. The final show of hands is stored on the paper.

    05

The archive keeps the full record

The paper steps down with its summary, thread, and tally attached. The next voted paper takes the slot, and years of Thursdays become searchable.

Describe the club you want to build

Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Say who can join, what they pay, how papers are nominated, how summaries are reviewed, and who can read the archive. Here are three to build on:

    kliv.dev

    Clinical trials club

Paid membership, voted trials, and PDF-based summaries.

“Build a paid journal club for clinicians. Charge $13 per month for individual members and $108 per month for a 12-seat lab plan. Members should nominate clinical trials, vote on the weekly paper, upload the PDF, receive an AI-drafted summary for presenter approval, and discuss each paper in a thread that stays attached to the archive record.”

    kliv.dev

    Machine-learning reading group

Paper voting and structured summaries for engineers.

“Build a membership reading group for machine-learning engineers. Members should pay $9 per month, vote on next week’s paper, upload PDFs, receive a structured summary with method, dataset, claims, and limitations, and keep one discussion thread per paper in a searchable archive.”

    kliv.dev

    Case-law circle

    Weekly decisions with member-only discussion.

“Build a members-only reading circle for appellate lawyers. Queue one decision per week, let members vote on the queue, draft a neutral summary from the uploaded opinion for moderator approval, and archive every thread with the case, court, date, and final discussion notes.”

    What the dues buy

Dues live in the catalog. Hard Endpoints charges $13 a month. The lab plan, with one bill and 12 seats, costs $108. Both can run in one catalog on Suvi’s own Stripe account. Failed cards retry on schedule, and recovery emails carry the fix.

The reading list can be public while discussion stays private. Titles, dates, and one-line takes can be public and crawler-readable. The arguments stay members-only. That lets the club be found by the quality of what it reads, without opening the room.

The year can summarize itself. A scheduled job can compile the most-argued paper, the closest vote, and the member whose nominations won three times, then send it under the club’s name.

A paid club has the same operational questions as any membership business. The membership solutions page covers tiers, lapses, and returns.

    Common questions

    What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a journal club, it can build the member area, paper queue, PDF upload, summaries, discussion threads, archive, and dues.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. Kliv builds the database, logic, and screens for how your club works. It is not a forum theme with a different name.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. You can ask for new membership tiers, voting rules, summary fields, archive filters, or email digests later.

    Can we upload paywalled papers?

PDFs sit in the club’s private file store behind the member door. What your club is allowed to share under its licenses is your decision; the platform keeps restricted files restricted.

    What does the agent read?

The PDF it is given, and the club material it is allowed to use. It does not need to search the web or read other clubs’ uploads. A presenter reviews the draft before it posts.

Is the club giving clinical guidance?

No. The club discusses evidence. The summary describes the paper, and members use their own professional judgment.

What happens to a member’s comments if they lapse?

The historical thread keeps every comment. A lapse can close future access, but the old record remains in place if the member returns.

    Can members vote on papers?

Yes. Nominations can collect votes, and the next paper can be chosen from the top of the queue.

Can discussion be member-only while the reading list is public?

Yes. You can publish paper titles and short public notes while keeping the full thread behind membership.

Do members need their own Stripe accounts?

No. Members pay by card. Payments run through your own Stripe account.

Does Kliv take a cut of dues?

No. Membership payments run on your Stripe account, and card processing fees are between you and Stripe.

Can I move off Kliv later?

Yes. The app’s code syncs to your own Git repository, and your records are in your database.
