Build a criminal case management system
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe the case system your office needs — dockets, discovery, speedy-trial deadlines, conflict walls, and past motions — and it builds the app around those rules.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a case-management product you configure from a fixed menu — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the database, the logic, the screens, and the access rules. What you get is a real app for your office. You can use it, change it later by asking, and run it with your own accounts and data. It isn’t a template with your logo on it.
On this page, that app is a criminal case management system for a defense office. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.
Why build your own case system?
Many case-management vendors are built for prosecutors or private firms. A public defender office needs different things: conflict checks before assignment, discovery tied to each case, speedy-trial dates computed from local rules, and a way to search the office’s own motions.
Kliv builds the system around your office: your courts, your deadlines, your conflict rules, and your files. The docket, the discovery shelf, the calendar, and the motion bank all read from the same case records.
What the system keeps
One case is made of several records. Kliv keeps them connected so the office does not have to rebuild the file by hand.
The case
Charge, court, judge, next appearance, and a speedy-trial clock computed from arraignment. When a continuance tolls the deadline, the date recalculates from the docket.
The client
Contact details, custody status, interpreter needs, and the client’s other open matters. Intake checks co-defendant lists before assignment, so conflicts surface at the start.
Discovery
Body-cam clips, lab reports, and large productions are filed on the case with team-only access and arrival numbers. Files do not sit in someone’s downloads folder.
The motion bank
Past motions, rulings, and results stay searchable for the whole office. Arguments that worked before become a shared resource instead of one attorney’s private folder.
The calendar
Every attorney’s appearances appear in one place. Two hearings in different courtrooms at the same hour show up while there is still time to move one.
An example: Yolanda’s public defender office
Here’s how one defense office might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own courts, deadlines, conflict rules, and case files.
The morning list is ready
Each attorney’s day assembles from the calendar: appearances, custody clients first, and the files already attached. Nobody has to copy a master sheet before court.
New appointments are checked before assignment
Three new appointments arrive from court. Intake checks each one against open matters, finds one co-defendant conflict, and routes it to conflict counsel before anyone reads the police report.
A discovery drop lands on the case
The prosecutor sends a supplemental production. It lands on the right case, the team is notified, and the new clips sit beside the old ones with numbers and dates.
A hearing question gets an office answer
Minutes before a suppression hearing, an attorney asks whether the office has won a vehicle-stop suppression in front of this judge. The agent answers from the office’s own 2023 motion and attached ruling.
Deadline risk shows up as a report
At the end of the week, the system lists every case within 30 days of a speedy-trial deadline. The dates come from the docket, not from a legal pad.
The closed case improves the next one
A plea resolves the case. The outcome writes to the record, the file closes with its history intact, and the motion that helped joins the bank for the next attorney.
Describe the case system you need
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include your courts, deadlines, roles, files, and conflict rules. Here are three to build on:
Public defender office
Caseloads, deadline clocks, discovery, and conflicts.
“Build a case management system for our 12-attorney public defender office. Show caseload dashboards by attorney, compute speedy-trial deadlines from arraignment and toll them for continuances, store discovery files per case, and run an intake conflict check against all open matters before assignment.”
Assigned counsel panel
Appointments, vouchers, caseloads, and payments.
“Build a management portal for our assigned-counsel program. Panel attorneys should receive appointments, file vouchers with time and expenses, upload case notes, and let administrators review caseloads and payment status across the whole panel.”
Investigator task board
Case-linked requests, uploads, and progress.
“Build a task tracker for our defense investigators. Each request should tie to a case, let investigators upload photos and interview notes to the case file, show attorneys status updates without email, and restrict each investigator to assigned matters.”
Built for court pace
Conflict walls are data rules. When the office is screened from one matter but keeps a related one, the screened attorney’s case lists, searches, files, and agent answers all exclude the walled case. The rule applies every time.
The whole defense team can work from the same case. Investigators and social workers sign in to their assignments, deadlines, tasks, and files. Supervisors see workload across the office. Each role sees the part it needs.
Client reminders come from the file. Court-date reminders go to clients by email before appearances, in wording the office controls. The reminders read the calendar, so unsent notices do not become another manual step.
Many offices are forced to adapt tools built for someone else. Building your own is how the defense office gets software that fits its work: how offices build their own.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI app builder for custom web apps. You describe what your office needs, it builds the application, and you own the result.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the database, rules, screens, and access controls for your office’s workflow. It is not a generic case-management theme.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can ask for changes in plain words: add a court, change a deadline rule, add a report, or adjust who can see which files.
Is client data confidential?
Yes. Files belong to cases, cases belong to teams, and access is checked from those records. File views and changes carry a name and a time, so the office can audit its own record.
Can we wall off a conflict inside the office?
Yes. A conflict wall removes the matter from the screened attorney’s case lists, files, searches, and agent answers while the rest of the office keeps working.
What does the agent know?
Only what you give it and what the signed-in user may see: uploaded motions, policies, and that attorney’s allowed cases. It does not answer from walled matters or another attorney’s private notes.
Can it compute our jurisdiction’s deadlines?
Yes. You describe the rule, including what tolls it, and the deadline becomes a computed value on each case. When the rule changes, you change the rule.
Can investigators and social workers use it too?
Yes. They can have role-specific views for tasks, deadlines, notes, and files, scoped to their assignments.
Can it send court-date reminders to clients?
Yes. Reminders can send from the calendar on your schedule and your wording, with each message tied back to the case.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.
Do I need a separate CMS or admin tool?
No. The app is its own admin. Cases, files, deadlines, and text can be edited inside the system by the roles you allow.
