    What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t a forum platform or a newsletter tool. It’s an AI app builder that builds software for you.

You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the shelf, member records, dues, reading logs, discussion rooms, spoiler rules, votes, moderation, and emails. What you get is a real app that’s yours. You can run it on your own domain, use your own Stripe account for dues, and keep changing it by asking for changes. It isn’t a template with comment threads attached.

On this page, that app is a book discovery and reading community. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one built around curation, membership, reading progress, and discussion rules.

Why build your own reading community?

A reading club is not only a comment thread. It needs a curated shelf, dossiers for past picks, member dues, votes, progress logs, and discussion rooms that protect a reader on page 90 from the ending someone else finished last night.

Kliv builds those rules into the app. Reading progress becomes a record, spoiler rooms check that record, dues open the member areas, and votes close on the dates you set.

    Shelves with rules

The records a reading club keeps, and what each one controls.

    Shelf

Every past pick can have a dossier: essay, translator interview, reading schedule, and public teaser for search.

    Reading logs

A member’s page count is a record. Rooms and threads can check that record before opening.

    Staged rooms

First-hundred-pages, midpoint, and ending rooms can admit only the members whose reading logs qualify.

    Shortlist and vote

Members nominate, the curator chooses three, and voting closes on the announced date, tallied in the database.

    Members and dues

Monthly readers at $7, annual patrons, and comped translators can all manage their plan or card from a billing page inside the club.

    Shelf assistant

An assistant can read a signed-in member’s own log and suggest from the club’s shelf, without seeing other members’ histories.

An example: Nadia’s translation book club

Here’s how one club might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own shelf, membership, reading schedule, spoiler rules, and votes.

    01

The month starts with a curated pick

Nadia announces one novel in translation with a dossier: why this book, a reading schedule, and notes such as how to pronounce the town where it happens.

    02

    Rooms open as members read

Members log page counts. The first-hundred-pages room fills first, while midpoint and ending rooms stay closed until each member’s log qualifies.

    03

Fast readers can discuss the ending

Petra finishes early and posts in the ending room. A member on page 90 cannot open that thread, because the room checks the reading log.

    04

    Patrons get the translator call

Annual patrons join a live translator call. The recording lands on the shelf behind the same access rule that admitted the audience.

    05

The wall comes down on schedule

On the 28th, rooms merge into the month’s full discussion, the vote for next month opens, and the pick is archived with its dossier complete.

Describe what you want to build

Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include membership, prices, reading logs, spoiler thresholds, votes, moderation, and what is public. Here are three to build on:

    kliv.dev

    Translation book club

Monthly pick, member dues, and staged spoiler rooms.

“Build a reading club for translated fiction. Members pay $7 a month, each month has one curated pick with a public teaser and member-only dossier, members log page count, discussion rooms unlock at pages 100, 200, and finished, and members vote on a shortlist of three books for next month.”

    kliv.dev

    Bookshop reading circle

Shop-run club with pickup perks and member threads.

“Build a reading community for our bookshop. Members pay $60 a year, reserve the monthly pick for counter pickup, get member-only discussion threads, and staff can post pickup reminders and close voting on the next pick at noon on the 25th.”

    kliv.dev

    Poetry subscription circle

A slim volume, weekly essays, and annotations.

“Build a poetry circle. Subscribers pay $12 a month, receive one collection each month, read a weekly close-reading essay behind the member gate, annotate favorite lines together, and first posts enter a moderation queue before appearing.”

    How access and spoilers work

Dues open the shelf. Membership and access can read the same record, so dossiers, rooms, and patron recordings follow the subscription. If a member rejoins, their reading log can still be there.

The spoiler wall is a row rule. A room’s page threshold is data. Whether a thread renders for a member is decided where the thread lives, so a curious URL does not leak the ending.

The month can close on schedule. A digest of annotations and the vote result can go to members by scheduled email, written in the club’s voice and sent from the club’s address.

First posts can wait for review. New voices can pass through a moderation queue before appearing.

Underneath the reading is a membership business: gates, dues, and a billing page nobody has to email about. The membership solutions page covers that side.

    Common questions

    What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI app builder that creates custom web apps from a description. For a reading community, it builds the shelf, member records, dues, reading logs, discussion rooms, spoiler gates, votes, moderation, and emails around how the club reads.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. Kliv builds the database, access rules, screens, billing flow, and discussion tools for your club.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. You can ask for changes later, such as new room thresholds, a new member tier, a different vote format, or a new shelf layout.

Can we really keep spoilers away from slower readers?

Yes. Rooms can carry page thresholds, and every read can check the member’s own log before a thread appears.

What does Kliv charge when the club reaches a thousand readers?

The same plan it charged at 40 readers. Kliv prices the builder, not your membership roll. Dues run through your own Stripe account, and what readers pay stays between you and Stripe, apart from normal card fees.

Do members need their own Stripe accounts?

No. Members just pay by card.

    Can members annotate and review?

Yes. Annotations, reviews, and reading notes can be app features attached to each pick, visible according to the rules you set.

Can the club start free and charge later?

Yes. A free tier can use the same signup and access flow as a paid tier, so adding $7 monthly membership later changes the catalog, not the whole app.

Can annual patrons get extra material?

Yes. Patron-only recordings, essays, or live-call archives can be gated to the annual patron tier.

    Can we moderate first posts?

Yes. First posts or flagged posts can wait in a moderation queue before appearing.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. The community can run on your own domain.

Can I move off Kliv later?

Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.
