Build a subscription box service
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your subscription box — monthly price, prepay, skips, gifts, preferences, packing lists, and member archive — and it builds the app.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a box plugin you bolt onto a generic shop — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the database, subscription billing, checkout, member pages, packing lists, and admin screens. What you get is a real web app that’s yours, on your own domain, running payments through your own Stripe account, and you can change it later by asking.
On this page, that app is a subscription box service. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; recurring commerce is one example.
Why build your own box platform?
A subscription box is not just a product page. You need to know who is active, who skipped, who prepaid, whose card failed, which preferences affect packing, and what ships this month.
Kliv builds the club as one system. The subscription, preferences, skip rules, billing, gifts, archive, and packing list all read the same customer records.
What the club remembers
Each part of the box service is a record with a rule.
Subscribers and preferences
Each subscriber has a plan, start month, preferences, and allergy flags. The packing list is computed from those rows.
The box cycle
Each month has its colorway, extras, and cutoff date. Close the cycle and the manifest freezes; late joiners roll to the next month by rule.
Skips and pauses
A skip is a subscriber action with rules, such as two skips a year or pauses up to three months. Billing and packing both honor it.
Billing and failed cards
Renewals charge on schedule on your own Stripe account. Failed cards get retries and recovery emails before access lapses.
Gifts and prepay
A three-month gift has an end date and gift note. Quarterly prepay at $105 can sit in the same catalog as the monthly $38 plan.
The reveal archive
Past boxes can be photographed and written up behind the member gate, so the archive opens to active subscribers.
An example: Elin’s hand-dyed yarn club
Here’s how one business might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own box, prices, preferences, skips, and packing rules.
A subscriber joins during a reveal
A knitter signs up for Elin’s $38 monthly club with a podcast promotion code. She adds preferences: no mohair, leans toward moody blues.
The first manifest is accurate
On cutoff day the manifest freezes: 287 boxes, 19 with the sock-weight swap, and the new subscriber flagged mohair-free.
A skip pauses the right things
Before a vacation, the subscriber presses skip in her account. Next month’s manifest excludes her, and billing pauses for that cycle.
A failed card recovers without email
Months later her card expires. The renewal fails, retries run, and she gets a link to update the card from her own billing page.
A gift ends cleanly
She buys a three-month gift for her sister. It ends on its own, with a note inviting the sister to stay, instead of turning into a surprise renewal.
The archive keeps members engaged
In December, she scrolls through the year’s reveals in the members-only archive, built from the same box records and photos Elin already added.
Describe the box service you want
Kliv builds from your description, so include prices, billing cadence, skips, gifts, preferences, packing rules, and the member experience.
Yarn club
Preferences, skips, gifts, and archive.
“Build a monthly yarn club at $38 with quarterly prepay at $105, colorway preferences, a no-mohair allergy flag, a two-skip-per-year rule, three-month gift subscriptions that do not auto-renew, and a members-only archive of past reveals.”
Coffee subscription
Grind, roast, cadence, and pause rules.
“Build a coffee subscription where subscribers choose whole bean, espresso grind, or filter grind, pick light or dark roast, choose delivery every two weeks at $24 or monthly at $42, and can pause from their account page for up to three months.”
Kids’ activity box
Age bands and sibling add-ons.
“Build a kids’ activity box subscription at $29 a month with age bands for 3–5, 6–8, and 9–11, sibling add-ons at $12 each, parent controls for skipping months, and address updates before the monthly cutoff.”
How it comes together
The archive gate reads the subscription. Joining opens the members’ archive. A lapse closes it on the schedule you set. No one maintains a separate access list.
You can test the year first. In the Sandbox, you can run sign-ups, renewals, failed cards, refunds, skips, and a gift ending on schedule before connecting Stripe.
Launch pricing can end on time. A founding-member price can have a closing date, and a podcast promotion code can be tracked to that source.
The commerce engine underneath — subscriptions, proration, and refunds that wait for approval — is covered on the commerce page.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a subscription box, it builds the subscription, checkout, member pages, preferences, packing lists, and archive.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the database, billing rules, customer pages, and admin screens for your box.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. Ask for a new skip rule, gift type, preference field, or packing-list change, and Kliv updates the app.
What happens when a subscriber’s card fails?
Retries and recovery emails run on a schedule. If the card is not fixed within your grace period, the subscription can lapse cleanly.
Can subscribers skip or pause without contacting me?
Yes. Skip and pause buttons can follow rules you set, and billing and packing use the same record.
Do I need Stripe before I start building?
No. You can test the whole club in the Sandbox first, then connect your own Stripe account when you are ready to charge.
Does Kliv take a cut per subscriber?
No. Payments run through your own Stripe account; card processing fees are between you and Stripe.
Do my customers need their own Stripe accounts?
No. Subscribers just pay by card.
Can I offer gifts and prepaid plans?
Yes. Gifts, monthly plans, and quarterly prepay can all live in the same catalog with their own terms.
How does shipping work?
The app owns the current addresses, frozen manifest, and per-box flags. Label purchase can stay in your carrier tool, fed by a current export or carrier API.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The box service can run on your own domain.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The app’s source syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull.
