Build a custom subscription billing platform
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps. Describe how you charge, and it builds you a complete subscription billing system — running on your own Stripe account.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a billing product you sign up for and configure — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the database, the logic, the screens, all of it. What you get is a real, working app that’s yours. You can use it, change it later by asking for changes, and run it on your own accounts — starting with your own Stripe account. It isn’t a template with your name on it.
On this page, that app is a subscription billing system, built around exactly how you charge. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; billing is one it handles well, and that’s what the rest of this page covers.
Why build your own billing?
Most billing tools only handle simple pricing: one monthly price, or a price per user. But plenty of businesses charge in other ways — a base fee plus a charge for how much a customer uses, plans that pause in the off-season, or the first batch of usage free and paid after that.
With an off-the-shelf tool, you either force your pricing into its template, or write extra code to fill the gaps.
Because Kliv builds the app around your description, the billing fits how you actually charge — not the other way around.
What Kliv handles for you
Six parts every subscription needs, and what each one does.
Plans and prices
Charge a flat monthly fee, a price based on usage, or a cheaper yearly rate — all in one catalog and checkout. You set the price the customer sees.
Usage
If you charge by usage, Kliv counts it for you. Your app tells Kliv “this customer used 500,” and Kliv adds it to the invoice. The customer sees the same number you do.
Trials and changes
Give new customers a free trial, with or without a card. If a customer switches plans mid-month, Kliv recalculates the charge for the days that are left, so nobody pays twice.
Failed payments
When a card doesn’t go through, Kliv retries and emails the customer a link to fix it. Most of the time the card has simply expired.
Invoices and tax
Kliv works out the tax and creates invoices you can file. Business customers add their own VAT or tax ID, and it shows up on their invoices.
Access
When a customer pays, what they bought turns on. When they stop paying, it turns off. You don’t wire this up yourself — access follows the payment.
An example: Mara’s greenhouse-monitoring service
Here’s how one business might use a billing system built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own plans and prices.
A new customer starts on a free trial
Mara signs up a grower, who gets 14 days of full access. The trial is a state on the subscription, so the app, the emails, and the dashboard all treat him as a trial user.
The first charge happens on its own
When the trial ends, the card is charged, the first invoice goes out, and a receipt lands on Mara’s template. She doesn’t have to do anything.
A mid-cycle upgrade is prorated
The grower adds a second greenhouse in the spring. The charge is prorated to the day, and the new site’s sensors start counting against the meter that afternoon.
A heavy month bills by usage
A summer heatwave triples the readings, past the plan’s included volume. The overage is priced from Mara’s catalog, and the grower watched it add up all month — no surprise invoice.
A failed card recovers itself
Later the grower’s card expires. Kliv retries on a schedule and emails a link; he updates it from his phone. The subscription never lapses.
A quiet season pauses instead of canceling
Over winter, half the greenhouses go dark. The plan pauses rather than cancels — history intact, resumed in one click in the spring.
Describe what you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Spell out your plans, your prices, your trial, and the tricky parts. Here are three to build on:
Pay for what you use
A base plan with an amount included, then a price per unit.
“Build subscription billing for my geocoding API. Charge $29 a month, which includes 10,000 lookups. Lookups beyond that cost $2 per thousand, metered as they happen. Every invoice should itemize how many lookups were used, and new customers get a 14-day free trial with no card required.”
Different plans
A cheaper and a pricier plan, with a free trial and a yearly discount.
“Build billing for my scheduling app with two plans: Starter at $19 and Team at $49 a month. Include a 14-day free trial, a 20% discount for paying yearly, and let customers upgrade or downgrade themselves, prorated to the day.”
Seasonal billing
Plans customers can pause and come back to.
“Build billing for my pool-care company. Customers pay $89 a month, can pause their plan over winter without losing their history, and resume in spring on the same plan. Send a receipt after every payment.”
Test it before you connect Stripe
Try everything first. You can run the whole thing on test payments and a clock you control. Fast-forward a year, watch a trial end, try a card that fails, make a refund — none of it touches real money.
You approve refunds. No refund happens on its own. A person has to say yes first, and Kliv records who did.
You can check the rules hold. Kliv can test that a customer who stopped paying really is locked out, and that a paying customer gets in. The page only goes live when the tests pass.
Billing is one part of Kliv’s tools for selling. You can also make bundles, discount codes, and limited-time prices — see the commerce page.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. You tell it what you need, it builds the app, and you own the result. For billing, that means a complete subscription system built around your pricing, running on your own Stripe account.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the database, the logic, and the screens for your specific case — not a pre-made form you fill in. You can keep changing it by describing what you want different.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You ask for changes in plain words and Kliv updates the app. Your prices, your plans, and your rules are all editable later, without starting over.
How does usage-based billing work?
You set a price per unit — say, per thousand lookups. Your app reports usage as it happens, and Kliv adds it to the invoice at the end of the period. You don’t have to tally it yourself.
What happens if a customer’s card fails?
Kliv retries on a schedule and emails the customer a link to their billing page. If it isn’t fixed within the grace period you set, their access turns off — and turns back on the moment they pay.
Does Kliv take a cut per customer?
No. Kliv doesn’t charge based on how many customers you have. Payments run through your own Stripe account, and card fees are between you and Stripe, as usual.
Do my customers need their own Stripe accounts?
No. Your customers just pay with a card. Stripe is how the money reaches your account; they never deal with it.
Can I offer both monthly and yearly plans?
Yes. You can offer a monthly price and a discounted yearly price for the same plan and let customers choose.
How do trials work — do I have to ask for a card up front?
That’s your choice. You can start a trial with no card and ask for one when it ends, or take the card up front and start charging automatically after the trial.
Can I give discounts or run promotions?
Yes. You can create discount codes and limited-time prices and apply them at checkout.
Can I charge in more than one currency?
Yes. You can set prices in the currencies you sell in, and each customer is charged in theirs.
What about tax and VAT?
You tell Kliv where you owe tax, and it calculates it at checkout and puts it on the invoice. Business customers can add their VAT or tax ID themselves.
Can customers manage their own subscriptions?
Yes. They get their own page to update their card, switch plans, download invoices, and pause where you allow it.
Where does the money go?
Straight to your own Stripe account. The customer records and the payouts are yours.
