Build a custom fund performance and analytics tool
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your fund performance workflow — calls, distributions, marks, capital accounts, LP portal, and quarterly packs — and it builds the tool.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a fund administration platform you sign up for and configure — it’s an AI app builder that builds software for you.
You describe what you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the database, the logic, the screens, and the rules. What you get is a real, working app that’s yours. You can use it, change it later by asking for changes, and run it on your own accounts and your own domain. It isn’t a template with your name on it.
On this page, that app is a fund performance and analytics tool for one fund’s reporting process. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example, and that’s what the rest of this page covers.
Why build your own fund performance and analytics tool?
Small funds still need strict reporting. Capital calls, distributions, valuation marks, LP statements, side letters, and audit questions all have to agree. A workbook can hold the numbers, but it is easy for the letter, the portal, and the audit export to drift apart.
Kliv builds the tool around the ledgers you describe: dated cash flows, mark history, computed capital accounts, LP access rules, and quarterly packs assembled from the same rows. The goal is one source for the numbers that leave the building.
The fund’s working records
The tool keeps a few strict ledgers and computes the rest from them.
Commitments and capital accounts
Each LP’s commitment, called-to-date, distributed-to-date, and remaining obligation are computed from ledger rows instead of maintained by hand.
The cash-flow ledger
Every capital call and distribution is a dated row with its wire reference. IRR is computed from this table whenever it is read.
Marks and history
Each portfolio company’s valuation has a date, basis, and memo. The current mark keeps its history instead of replacing it.
The quarterly pack
TVPI, DPI, contributions, schedules of investments, and per-LP statements assemble from the ledgers at close.
Side letters and documents
The LPA can be visible to everyone. Each side letter is visible only to its LP and the GP. Sensitive terms are files with access rules.
LP logins
An LP can see fund-level totals and their own capital account. Other LP accounts are outside their access rule.
An example: Konstantin’s venture fund close
Here’s how one fund team might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own vehicle, ledgers, formulas, documents, and LP access rules.
Marks arrive with their reasoning
Konstantin’s $51 million venture fund has 24 portfolio companies. Two companies re-price on new rounds and one is written down; each mark lands with a date, basis, and memo.
The cash-flow ledger updates every account
A Q3 distribution from an exit is entered once with its wire reference. Each of the 61 LP capital accounts updates because accounts are computed from the ledger.
The quarterly pack assembles from the same rows
TVPI and DPI are computed as of September 30. The schedule of investments and per-LP statements are different layouts over the same data.
LPs see their own statements
Each LP receives their statement by email and can sign into the portal to see the same numbers. They see fund totals and their own account, not their neighbors’ positions.
The audit trail is ready later
In February, auditors ask how a Series B mark moved during the year. The answer is the chain of dates, bases, and memos, read from the tool instead of reconstructed from emails.
Describe the fund tool you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include the vehicle, ledgers, formulas, permissions, documents, and reporting cadence. Here are three to build on:
Venture fund reporting
Calls, distributions, marks, and LP statements.
“Build a fund reporting tool for our $51 million venture fund with 61 LPs and 24 portfolio companies. Keep a dated ledger of capital calls and distributions with wire references, store valuation marks with history and memos, compute IRR, TVPI, DPI, and capital accounts from the ledger, and generate per-LP statements at quarter close.”
Real assets fund
Property appraisals and investor accounts.
“Build a performance tracker for our real-estate fund with 12 properties. Each property should keep appraisals with dates, basis notes, and supporting files; rental cash flows should post to the fund ledger; and investors should see fund totals plus only their own account and documents.”
Family office book
Entities, outside funds, and reminders.
“Build a family office investment book with entities, commitments across outside funds, capital-call deadlines with reminders, distribution records, document storage, and a consolidated view computed from the underlying entries.”
Behind the capital account
Access is enforced on the rows. An LP login can read its own account, its documents, its side letter, and fund-level aggregates. It cannot query another LP’s account. The GP dashboard reads the full book because the GP role allows it.
Formulas are code you can inspect. IRR, TVPI, DPI, and pro-rata call allocations run as server-side TypeScript functions over the ledger. The same functions answer the letter, the portal, and the export.
Notices follow a schedule. Capital-call notices go out on your templates with each LP’s pro-rata amount and deadline. Reminders follow, and the quarterly letter can send to all 61 LPs after close.
Strip away the suits and a fund back office is an internal tool: rows, rules, and a few people who need the same truth. That discipline, applied everywhere, is Kliv’s broader internal-tools story.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI app builder. You describe the software you need, it builds the working app, and you own the result. For this page, that means a ledger-backed fund reporting tool with computed capital accounts, LP access rules, quarterly packs, and an audit trail.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the data, rules, and screens for your specific case, not a pre-made theme you fill in. You keep changing it by describing what you want different.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. Ask for changes in plain words and Kliv updates the app. You can adjust fields, workflows, pages, emails, access rules, and reports without starting over.
Can one LP ever see another LP’s position?
No. An LP’s queries are answered from their own rows and fund-level aggregates. Other capital accounts are outside the access rule, so they stay out of pages, exports, and searches.
How are IRR and multiples calculated?
They are computed from the dated cash-flow ledger by server-side functions you can read and test. The letter, portal, and export use the same calculations.
What does the annual audit look like?
Auditors can review mark history, cash flows, wire references, and supporting documents from the trail instead of working through exported spreadsheet folders.
Does the tool move money?
No. Capital calls and distributions settle by wire as they do today. The tool issues notices, records flows, and computes everything downstream.
Can marks keep their history?
Yes. A mark is a chain of dated values with basis notes and memos. The current valuation does not erase the earlier record.
Can LP statements and portal numbers disagree?
They should not, because both are assembled from the same ledger rows and formulas.
Can side letters be private?
Yes. Each side letter can be visible to its LP and the GP only, while common documents such as the LPA can be visible to all LPs.
Can capital-call notices send automatically?
Yes. Notices and reminders can send on your templates with each LP’s amount and deadline, based on the ledger and commitment records.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The LP portal can run on your own domain.
Can I export the data?
Yes. The ledgers and records are yours, and the app can produce the exports your audit or reporting process needs.
