Build an accounting firm client portal
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe the accounting firm client portal you need — client rooms, checklists, deadlines, file uploads, draft review, and assistant answers — and it builds it.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a generic document portal you sign up for and configure — it’s an AI app builder that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the logic, the screens, and the workflow. What you get is a real working app that’s yours. You own it, run it on your own domain or accounts, and keep changing it later by asking. It isn’t a template with your name on it.
On this page, that app is a custom client portal for an accounting firm. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.
Why the firm needs its own portal
Tax season turns messy when organizers, files, reminders, draft returns, and questions all live in email. Generic portals often impose their own folder tree and deadline logic, while each firm has its own practice: return types, checklists, review steps, and extension rhythm.
Kliv builds the portal around the firm. Each client gets a private room, staff see the whole season, and checklists, reminders, draft review, and file-grounded answers all read the same engagement record.
What the portal knows
A filing season needs records that keep each client separate.
Clients and engagements
A client is an organization, and an engagement is that client’s year: return type, fee, assigned preparer, and status. A signed-in client sees only their own engagements.
The document checklist
Each engagement carries its expected documents: prior-year P&L, payroll summary, K-1s, W-2s, or whatever the return needs. Missing lines drive reminders.
The file exchange
Uploads land in the file store under the client’s wall, not in anyone’s inbox. Draft returns travel back the same way.
The filing calendar
Due dates, extension status, and reminder timing live on the engagement. A scheduled job sends only what each client still owes.
The client’s assistant
The assistant answers from that client’s uploaded documents and engagement history, scoped by the same rules as the portal. Another client’s return is not available.
The season board
Partners see all engagements by state: waiting on documents, in preparation, in review, filed, or extended.
An example: Elena’s accounting firm
Here’s how one firm might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own clients, return types, checklists, reminders, and review process.
The organizer opens the client room
Elena’s three-partner firm rolls forward a restaurant LLC from last year. The checklist updates dates, sends the invitation, and opens the client’s room.
Documents arrive against the checklist
The client uploads payroll summaries and W-2s. Three K-1 lines stay missing, and the season board shows that without anyone asking.
Reminders use the missing lines
The nightly job emails only the items that client still owes. Staff do not have to write a custom chasing message.
Draft review is recorded
The draft return is posted to the room. The client asks what changed in the depreciation schedule, approves the draft, and the approval becomes a row.
Midyear questions stay attached
At 9 p.m. in June, the client asks what election was made on a vehicle. The assistant answers from the client’s file, and the exchange is saved on the engagement.
Extensions follow the same process
October extended returns use their own dates and checklist state. The season ends with the board showing no missing required items.
Describe your firm’s portal
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include return types, documents, deadlines, review steps, and access rules. Here are three to build on:
Tax season portal
Checklists, reminders, and draft review.
“Build a client portal for our tax practice. Each client should have a checklist per return type for W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, payroll summaries, and prior-year documents, automatic reminders for missing items 21, 14, and 7 days before due dates, and a draft return review page with recorded approval.”
Bookkeeping client hub
Monthly statements and file-grounded questions.
“Build a portal where bookkeeping clients upload receipts and bank statements, download monthly reports, see close status, and ask an assistant questions answered only from their own financial files and engagement history.”
Audit PBC portal
Request lists that track themselves.
“Build an audit portal where each engagement has a prepared-by-client request list by audit area, clients upload against each request, staff mark review status, and the team sees outstanding items by client and due date.”
The mechanisms underneath
The wall is the database. A client’s session can read only rows that belong to that client’s organization: engagements, documents, transcripts, and approvals. A Scenario test can sign in as one client and prove another client’s file is refused before launch.
Reminders are scheduled work. A server-side job reads the filing calendar and checklists, then sends each client a letter on your templates with only their missing items.
The assistant reads the file. Uploads are indexed when they arrive, so answers come from the engagement letter, fixed-asset schedule, or prior return for that client, not a general guess.
The portal is often the first room in a wider service business system: proposals, retainers, delivery, and reporting. See how service firms run the whole engagement on Kliv.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI app builder. You describe your accounting firm portal, and Kliv builds the real app with client rooms, checklists, files, reminders, review steps, and access rules.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Your return types, checklist rules, deadlines, file categories, and review workflow shape the portal.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can add a return type, change reminders, add an approval step, or update the assistant’s document scope later.
Can one client ever see another client’s documents?
No. Privacy is enforced at the row. A client account can only read rows that belong to that client organization.
Where do uploaded documents live?
They live in your app’s private file store, access-ruled per client and engagement. They are not email attachments or a shared drive.
Can reminder emails match our letterhead?
Yes. Emails use templates you approve and can send from your domain. Each reminder is generated from that client’s missing checklist lines.
Can the assistant answer from client files?
Yes. It can answer from the client’s uploaded documents and engagement history, and it stays scoped to that client’s rows.
Is this client-facing tax advice?
No. It is a portal and file-grounded assistant for the engagement. Your firm decides what it may answer and what should go to staff review.
What happens after tax season?
The room keeps working for quarterly uploads, midyear questions, draft documents, and next year’s engagement rolled forward from this one.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The portal runs on your own domain and goes live when you build it.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The app’s code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull, not a rebuild.
