What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t a crowdfunding portal where your campaign sits inside someone else’s marketplace — it’s an AI that builds software for you.

You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the campaign page, pledge checkout, reward limits, backer areas, receipts, and admin screens. What you get is a real app that’s yours, running on your own Stripe account. It isn’t a template or a hosted campaign page you rent.

On this page, that app is a crowdfunding platform. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.

Why run the campaign on your own platform?

Large crowdfunding portals put your campaign inside their brand, beside other campaigns, with backer data you may have to export. Some campaigns need a simpler thing: their own page, their own rewards, and a backer relationship that lasts after the deadline.

Kliv builds the campaign as your own application. Pledges run through checkout on your own Stripe account. The public total is summed from paid pledges in your database, and the backer list is yours.

What the campaign tracks

A campaign has a public page and records behind it. These are the parts Kliv keeps connected.

The campaign and total

A goal, deadline, and running total summed from paid pledges. The number on the page comes from the database, not from a manually edited counter.

Reward tiers

Examples like €25 for a name on the beam, €150 for a private tour, and €500 for miller-for-a-day. Each tier is a catalog price, and the 20-tour limit is enforced at checkout.

Backers and pledges

Every pledge is a purchase on a backer’s record: amount, reward owed, receipt, and access to the updates that pledge unlocks.

Backer-only updates

Restoration photos can sit behind the pledge gate. The public sees progress; paid backers see the private diary.

The patron circle

Monthly supporters can give €6 a month. Failed cards retry on a schedule, with recovery emails that let patrons fix payment themselves.

Fulfillment

When the campaign closes, the system already knows who is owed a tour, which names go on the beam, and where rewards should be sent.

An example: Elena’s windmill trust

Here’s how one campaign might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own goal, rewards, updates, and supporter rules.

01

The campaign goes live on its own page

Elena publishes the windmill campaign on the trust’s domain with HTTPS and a pledge button connected to the trust’s Stripe account.

02

Each pledge updates the campaign record

A paid pledge writes the backer record, sends a receipt on the trust’s template, and updates the public total from the same payment.

03

Limited rewards stop at the cap

When the 20th private tour sells, the tier closes. The 21st person cannot buy it and does not have to be disappointed later by email.

04

Backer updates stay private

Photos of the restored cap wing are posted for backers only. Access comes from the pledge itself, so there is no separate list to maintain.

05

A monthly supporter fixes a failed card

A patron’s card expires. Kliv retries the charge and sends a recovery link; the patron updates the card from a phone, and the friends circle continues.

06

The campaign closes with fulfillment ready

At the deadline, the goal has landed, thank-you emails go to backers, and the fulfillment ledger lists tours, beam names, and mailed rewards. The one-time campaign ends; monthly support keeps going.

Describe the campaign you want to build

Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include the goal, deadline, rewards, caps, updates, payments, and what happens if the goal is missed. Here are three to build on:

Heritage restoration fund

Goal, limited rewards, backer updates, and monthly supporters.

“Build a crowdfunding site for our windmill trust. Set a €40,000 goal ending on 30 September, offer €25 name-on-the-beam pledges, 20 private mill tours at €150, miller-for-a-day at €500, backer-only photo updates every Friday, and a €6 monthly friends circle after the campaign closes.”

School playground appeal

Family and business tiers with a public progress page.

“Build a fundraising campaign for our school playground with a $25,000 goal by 15 May. Offer family pledges at $50, sponsor plaques for local businesses at $500, a live progress page, receipts, and thank-you emails on our own template.”

kliv.dev

Documentary pre-sale

Pledges that pre-buy the film, credits, tickets, and private updates.

“Build a backer site for our documentary. Let supporters pre-buy the film for $20, add credit listings at $100, include two premiere tickets at $250, and give all paid backers access to a private production diary until release.”

Under the progress bar

The pledge controls access. Backer-only updates open when a pledge is paid because the update gate reads the pledge record. There is no separate list of email addresses to keep in sync.

Refunds follow your policy. If the goal is missed, you decide whether to keep pledges, extend the deadline, or refund. If you refund, each refund waits for human approval and every backer gets your explanation.

You can rehearse the campaign first. In the Sandbox, you can run test payments and simulated time: hit day 60, test the tour cap, and try a failed card before any real money moves.

You can see which channel worked. Analytics can tie pledges to the newspaper story, the village Facebook group, the newsletter, or another source, so the next campaign starts with better information.

A campaign is one part of running a nonprofit on your own software. The wider donor, member, and volunteer story continues in Kliv for nonprofits.

Common questions

What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI app builder for custom web apps. You describe your crowdfunding platform, it builds the app, and you own the result.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. Kliv builds the campaign page, checkout, backer records, reward limits, update gates, receipts, and admin screens for your campaign.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. You can ask for changes later: new rewards, a changed deadline, different emails, extra reports, or a monthly supporter area.

What happens if we do not reach the goal?

Your policy decides: keep the pledges, extend the deadline, or refund. If you refund, each refund queues for approval before money moves, and backers receive your explanation.

Can rewards really be limited?

Yes. A tier can carry a cap in the catalog, and checkout refuses pledges past it. When 20 tours are sold, the 21st purchase does not go through.

Can we take monthly supporters as well as one-time pledges?

Yes. Single pledges and a recurring patron circle can live in the same catalog. Patrons can manage cards, failed charges retry, and cancellation can be self-serve.

Do backers need accounts?

For backer-only updates, yes. Sign-in can use email and password, Google, Facebook, or a passkey, and access reads the pledge on the signed-in backer’s record.

Do my backers need their own Stripe accounts?

No. Backers just pay by card. Payments run through your own Stripe account.

Does Kliv take a cut of pledges?

No. Kliv does not take a per-pledge cut. Card processing costs are between you and Stripe.

Can we send receipts and thank-you emails?

Yes. Receipts and campaign emails can use your templates and can be tied to paid pledges, refunds, or fulfillment steps.

Will the campaign show up in search?

Yes. Pages can be prerendered and readable to search engines and AI assistants, with a sitemap generated for the app.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. The campaign can run on your own domain.

Can I move off Kliv later?

Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.
