Why build your own donation website?
A charity often needs more than a donate button. A campaign needs a goal, a deadline, a progress bar people trust, donor records, receipts, and updates that show what the money made possible.
Kliv builds the donation site as your own app. Donors, gifts, campaigns, receipts, and updates are records in your database. Payments run on your own Stripe account. The story between gifts — field reports, photos, readings, and thank-yous — lives on the same site that takes the money.

Donors over time
Each donor has a record: monthly supporters, one-off givers, large gifts, and volunteers if you track them. When someone writes in, their history is in front of you.
Campaigns and progress
A campaign carries its goal, deadline, story, and progress bar. The progress number is computed from the same payment rows that create the receipts.
Monthly giving
A monthly gift runs as a subscription on your own Stripe account. If a card expires, retries and recovery emails try to fix it before a donor is lost.
Tribute gifts
A gift can include a dedication. The notification uses your template, and the tribute page gathers gifts and messages under the right name.
Receipts and annual summaries
Every gift gets a receipt on your template, and donors can download their own year-end summary instead of waiting for a mail merge.
The work itself
Field reports, photos, camera stills, water readings, and updates live on the same site, so donors can see what their gifts supported.

Here’s how one charity might use a donation website built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own appeal, donor records, match rules, and follow-up.
Priya’s appeal goes live with the goal visible
Priya describes the meadow campaign, and the page exists when it builds: goal, story, deadline, progress at zero, and the trust’s own domain.
The page can be found and shared
In the first week, search crawlers get prerendered pages, and the sitemap updates when the appeal appears, so people searching for the meadow can find and share it.
Small gifts update the campaign as they arrive
By week three, £10 and £25 gifts arrive at odd hours. Each gift sends a receipt, moves the thermometer, and joins a donor record, whether that donor is new or long-known.
The matched weekend follows a rule
A local firm matches gifts for 48 hours. The match window is a rule on the campaign with a start and an end, so it opens and closes itself.
Trustees see the real total
Near week eight, the total trustees watch is computed from payment rows. When the campaign reaches 97% and then passes the goal, the page says so and applies the overflow policy Priya chose.
Donors get proof after the appeal
Afterward, every donor gets the update on Priya’s template: the signed contract, the first fence line, and the otter stills. The next appeal starts from a warmer donor list.

How it comes together
Recurring gifts are subscriptions. Monthly giving runs on your own Stripe account, with failed-card retries and recovery emails. A card problem can be handled as an update, not as a lost donor.
Refunds require approval. Duplicate gift, wrong amount, donor hardship — money moves back only after a person approves it, and the decision is recorded with the gift.
The charity keeps the donor relationship. Donor records live in your database, can be exported any time, and the site’s code lives in a Git repository you control.

Can I change it after it’s built?

What does it cost per donation?
Kliv does not take a cut of each donation. Payments run on your own Stripe account, and processing fees are between you and Stripe.
Do donors need their own Stripe accounts?
No. Donors pay by card. Stripe is how the money reaches your charity’s account.
What happens when a monthly donor’s card expires?
The charge retries on a schedule, and recovery emails send the donor to a page where they can update the card themselves.
Can donors manage their own giving?
Yes. Donors can sign in, view their history, update a card, change an amount, pause or stop monthly giving, and download receipts or annual summaries.
Is the progress bar accurate?
Yes. It is computed from the payment rows themselves, the same records used for receipts and accounts.
Can we run tribute or in-memory gifts?
Yes. A gift can include a dedication, belong to a tribute page, and notify the family on your template.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The donation site can run on your own domain and go live as soon as you build it.
Will the campaign pages show up in search?
Yes. Pages are prerendered for crawlers, the sitemap is generated automatically, and campaign pages can be shared and indexed.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The donor data is exportable, and the code syncs to your own Git repository.
