Why build a diagnostics-first shop system?
Ansel runs a two-bay diesel shop off the interstate. His business depends on diagnosis, not guesswork. An owner-operator with a derate warning pays for a diagnostic session because he wants the written answer before approving a repair.
Generic shop software often treats diagnosis as a line item under repair. Kliv builds the system the other way around: the diagnostic session is the product, the findings report is the deliverable, and the repair order inherits the evidence when the customer approves.

Each VIN has past sessions, ECM snapshots, findings, repairs, and uploaded old paperwork, so the second visit starts with history.

Findings report
The written verdict, photos, and readings go to the customer portal. This report is what the diagnostic fee buys.
Repair orders
Approved work carries parts, labor, and warranty terms on the line item, so return visits can be checked against the record.

A part ETA lives on the truck page, so customers can see status without calling from a rest stop.

A fleet organization sees all its trucks. An owner-operator sees one file. The separation is enforced by records.

Here’s how one shop might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own bays, fees, intake, reports, approval rules, and warranties.
A driver books a paid session
An owner-operator three hundred miles away books Thursday at 07:00, pays the $175 fee, and answers intake questions about fault codes and symptoms.
The session records the evidence
Codes, boost readings, and photos of the actuator arm go into the VIN file while the work happens.
The verdict is clear to the customer
The findings report says the actuator is failing, not the turbo. The repair quote is attached, and approval is a recorded click from the customer portal.
The part ETA is visible

How the paperwork works
The slot matters because it is paid. The $175 session can be paid at booking through checkout on the shop’s own Stripe account, so the bay is committed before the truck arrives.
Reports have access rules. Findings live in the file store, shared to the customer they belong to. A fleet dispatcher can see the fleet; a driver sees his truck; the shop sees everything.
Mileage can bring customers back. A scheduled pass over service intervals can send due notices in the shop’s own wording.
