Build a personal finance and budgeting app
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your personal finance and budgeting app, and it builds envelopes, CSV imports, runway math, receipts, privacy rules, and summaries around your money.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a personal finance product with fixed categories — it’s an AI app builder that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the database, the rules, the screens, the imports, and the summaries. What you get is a real app that’s yours, on your own domain. You can change it later by asking for changes. It isn’t a budgeting template.
On this page, that app is a personal finance and budgeting app: envelopes, CSV imports, freelance runway, receipts, private categories, and answers from your own transactions. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.
Why build your own budgeting app?
Maja is an illustrator with income that arrives in a few invoices each quarter. Her partner Tomas is paid on the 25th. Most budgeting apps assumed regular salary income and answered where money went. Maja and Tomas needed to know how long their money would last.
Kliv builds the app around the household’s real rules: what is shared, what is private, what counts as runway, how imported transactions map to envelopes, and what the monthly summary should say.
What your budget knows
A budget is a set of facts about your money. These are the records this app can hold.
Accounts and CSV import
Bank exports drop in as CSV. Each transaction becomes a row, and overlapping imports can be matched so a coffee is not counted twice.
Shared and private envelopes
Rent, groceries, and buffer can be shared. Maja’s gift envelope can be private, so Tomas’s sign-in simply does not return that row.
Runway
Months left at current spending are computed from real expenses. The number updates with each import.
Expected invoices
Expected income can have sent, due, and overdue dates. The runway can distinguish money in the account from money still owed.
Receipts
Receipt photos can attach to transactions and stay private by default, ready for tax records or later questions.
Household agent
Ask a question such as “what has the kitchen renovation cost so far?” and the agent answers from your own rows: sums, dates, and trends.
An example: Maja and Tomas’s household budget
Here’s how one household might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own income, envelopes, privacy rules, imports, and summaries.
Salary splits into shared envelopes
When Tomas’s salary lands on the 25th, the app splits it by the rules they described: rent first, groceries next, and the buffer after that.
Late freelance income tops up runway
Maja’s December invoice arrives two months late. It increases runway instead of turning into spending money.
A surprise expense changes the forecast
The dishwasher replacement comes out of the buffer with a receipt photo attached. The runway dips and shows the change plainly.
A dinner question gets an answer
When they ask how much is in the summer-trip envelope, the agent answers from the rows: current balance, monthly pace, and expected date to goal.
The monthly digest sends itself
On the first, a scheduled email summarizes income, envelope movement, and runway for both of them on their own template.
Describe the budget app you want
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include income timing, imports, categories, privacy rules, and summaries. Here are three to build on:
Freelance runway tracker
Irregular income and steady expenses.
“Build a budgeting app for a freelancer with CSV import of bank transactions, expected invoices with due and overdue dates, envelopes for taxes and equipment, and a runway view that shows how many months of expenses are covered at the current burn rate.”
Couple’s envelope budget
Shared costs and private envelopes.
“Build a budget app for two people. Rent, groceries, utilities, and travel are shared envelopes, each partner has private envelopes the other cannot see, overlapping CSV imports should de-duplicate transactions, and a monthly email should summarize shared spending and runway.”
Debt payoff dashboard
Balances, interest, and a payment plan.
“Build a debt payoff tracker with each loan’s balance, interest rate, minimum payment, and target extra payment. Show the payoff date, total interest saved, and progress chart over time.”
The mechanisms underneath
Privacy can be tested. Before Tomas signs in, a Scenario can sign in as him and try to read Maja’s private envelope against a throwaway copy of the data. The run receipt shows the row was not returned.
The schema can change with life. If Maja starts invoicing in euros, you can ask for the app to track currency. New fields can arrive while old history stays intact.
The data is yours. The ledger is rows in your database, and the app’s source syncs to your own Git repository. You can export the records or code when you need to.
The agent is useful because it answers from your own numbers, not generic financial advice. Kliv also builds larger apps with intelligent cores; AI apps on Kliv explains that pattern.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI app builder that builds custom web apps from a description. For budgeting, it can build imports, envelopes, runway math, receipt storage, summaries, and an agent that answers from your transactions.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. It is built around your household’s income timing, privacy rules, envelopes, imports, and summaries.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can change envelopes, import rules, privacy rules, summaries, and reports later.
Does it connect directly to my bank?
The source page uses CSV imports. Most banks export CSV, and the app can de-duplicate overlapping files. It does not need your bank credentials.
Can two people share a budget but keep some things private?
Yes. Shared envelopes can be visible to both sign-ins. Private envelopes return only to the person who owns them.
Will the agent give financial advice?
No. It answers questions from your own transactions: totals, balances, dates, and trends. It is not a financial adviser.
What happens to our data if we stop using Kliv?
The records are yours, and the app’s source code syncs to your own Git repository. You can export your data and code.
Can I import receipts?
Yes. Receipt photos can attach to transaction rows and stay private by default.
Can it handle freelance invoices?
Yes. Expected income can track sent, due, and overdue invoices, and runway can distinguish expected money from money already in the account.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The app can run on your own domain.
Do I need a separate reporting tool?
No. The app can send monthly summaries and show charts from the same rows it imports.
