Inventory Management
Build an inventory management system
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe how your stock arrives, moves, reserves, sells, and gets counted, and it builds an inventory management system around those rules.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t an inventory product you configure around fixed fields — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the rules, the screens, the reports, and the workflows. What you get is a real web app that’s yours, on your own domain, and you can change it later by asking. It isn’t a template stockroom.
On this page, that app is an inventory management system. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one for stockrooms, yards, warehouses, and the rules that keep counts true.
Why build your own inventory system?
Inventory software often assumes every business counts the same way: SKUs on shelves, units in, units out. Many businesses do not work that way. A lumber yard counts board feet by lot, species, grade, location, and usable offcuts.
Kliv builds the system around your unit of truth. You describe how stock arrives, moves, reserves, sells, and returns. The app enforces those rules in the database, so the count stops being a guess.
What the yard knows
Six records and rules keep the count honest.
Lots
A lot is the arrival: species, grade, board feet, supplier, cost, and moisture reading. Every board sold can trace back to the truck it came from.
Locations
Yard, kiln, rack 14: stock is always somewhere, and a move is a recorded transfer. The same boards cannot be claimed by two locations.
Reservations
An open quote can hold real stock. Reserve 80 board feet for a staircase job and the counter sees 80 fewer available to sell. When the quote expires, the boards return.
Reorder points
Each species or item can carry the level you never want to drop below. Cross it and the morning digest says so before the customer at the counter does.
Cycle counts
Counts can be done by rack or location. Variances are recorded instead of silently absorbed, so you know where a number drifted.
Movement history
Every receipt, move, pick, sale, return, and adjustment is recorded with a name and time. Shrinkage becomes a question with an answer.
An example: Rowan’s hardwood lumber yard
Here’s how one lumber yard might use an inventory system built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own stock, units, locations, and rules.
The truck becomes a lot
Receiving books 200 board feet of quartersawn white oak with species, grade, supplier, moisture, and cost. The lot lands in the yard location when it is saved.
A transfer moves the count once
Two weeks later, the lot moves from yard to kiln. Both counts change in the same write, so the boards do not exist twice or disappear.
Rack counts become sellable truth
After drying, the lot splits by grade across racks. Each rack count is now what the counter can sell from.
A quote reserves real stock
A staircase builder asks for 80 board feet. The quote holds those boards for 14 days, and another customer sees only what is genuinely left.
The sale refuses a bad pick
The boards are picked and sold. A pick that would drive a rack negative is refused, and a twelve-foot offcut returns as its own record.
The count explains the variance
At quarter end, the cycle count on rack 14 is off by one board. The variance is a row with the reason, not a quiet overwrite.
Describe the inventory system you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include units, locations, reservations, reorder points, counts, and exceptions. Here are three to build on:
Lumber yard
Lots, kilns, racks, board feet, and reservations.
“Build an inventory system for a hardwood lumber yard. Track lots by species and grade in board feet, move stock between yard, kiln, and rack locations, reserve boards against open quotes for 14 days, and email a morning digest when any species falls below its reorder point.”
Ceramics studio
Clay and glaze materials by weight.
“Build inventory tracking for a ceramics studio. Track clay bodies and glaze materials by kilograms, link batches to firings, subtract materials when a batch is mixed, and send a weekly reorder email when cobalt, feldspar, or stoneware clay drops below its minimum.”
Brewery cellar
Batches, liters, kegs, and raw ingredients.
“Build a cellar inventory for a small brewery. Track each batch by liters from tank to serialized kegs, follow kegs out to accounts and back, record losses, and keep reorder points on hops, yeast, cans, and malt.”
Past counting
Ask the stockroom a question. An agent inside the app can answer from rows the signed-in person is allowed to see. “Do we have 40 board feet of quartersawn white oak, and where?” returns a location, not a guess.
Numbers you can steer by. Analytics is built in. You can define events such as picks per week by species and watch turns, dead stock, and high-value racks without setting up a separate tag tool.
Online selling can use the same stock. If the yard sells milled blanks online, the storefront can sell from the same rows as the counter. The last slab cannot sell twice, and checkout can run on your own Stripe account.
An inventory system is often the first internal tool, not the last. Purchasing, dispatch, and approvals are mapped on the internal-tools page.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For inventory, it builds the records, rules, screens, counts, reports, and workflows around how you stock things.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Your units, locations, item types, reservations, and rules are built into it, instead of being forced into fixed inventory fields.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can add item types, new locations, purchase orders, reorder logic, reports, or import flows later.
Can it handle our units?
Yes. Board feet, liters, grams, serialized kegs, spools, pallets, or multiple units in the same system can be described and built.
What stops stock going negative?
The database can refuse a pick larger than what the location holds. Adjustments still exist, but they are recorded movements with a name and time.
Can several people count at once?
Yes. Cycle counts can be scoped by location, each entry can carry author and time, and variances can be reviewed later.
What about purchase orders?
Describe them and they can join the same database. A purchase order is expected stock, receiving turns it into a lot, and the reorder digest can link to supplier orders.
Can we import the old spreadsheet?
Yes. You can describe the columns and import the sheet so existing items, lots, suppliers, and counts become rows.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The inventory system can run on your own domain.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, and your data can be exported.
Can this connect to a storefront?
Yes, if you build that part. The storefront and stockroom can read the same inventory records, and payments can run through your own Stripe account.
Do I need a separate reporting tool?
No. Dashboards, reorder digests, movement history, and count reports can be part of the app.

Count it the way you actually stock it
Describe what you stock, how you count it, where it moves, and what should never be allowed. Kliv builds the inventory system around those rules.
