    What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t a forwarding suite built for every forwarder you sign up for and configure — it’s an AI app builder that builds software for you.

You describe what you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the database, the logic, the screens, and the rules. What you get is a real, working application that’s yours. You can use it, change it later by asking for changes, and run it on your own accounts and your own domain. It isn’t a template with your name on it.

On this page, that app is a freight forwarding and logistics platform shaped to one office’s shipments, documents, milestones, and invoices. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example, and that’s what the rest of this page covers.

Why build your own forwarding platform?

A small forwarding office often has the cargo under control and the information scattered. Milestones live in carrier portals, documents live in email threads, and clients call because they have no reliable place to check their shipment.

Large forwarding suites are often priced and shaped for much larger operators. Kliv builds the narrower system you describe: shipment files, milestone tracking, document sets, shipper logins, quotes, invoices, and status emails. The point is simple: each client can see its own cargo without calling the desk.

What the office keeps track of

Five records carry the shipment from quote to payment.

    Shipment files

Mode, incoterms, container, vessel, parties, dates, quotes, documents, milestones, and invoice all sit under one shipment record.

    Shipper organizations

Each client is an organization with users who sign in to see their own cargo. The database enforces the wall between shippers.

    Document sets

Bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates attach to the shipment and are shared only with the shipper that owns the cargo.

    Milestones and dates

Booked, gated in, sailed, arrived, cleared, delivered. Each update stamps the timeline, updates the portal, and can send the client an email from your template.

    Quotes and invoices

Quotes carry rates, surcharges, and validity dates. Expired quotes cannot become bookings. Invoices print the client’s tax ID and include a payment link.

    An example: Amara’s forwarding office

Here’s how one forwarding office might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own lanes, milestones, documents, and billing rules.

    01

    The RFQ becomes a quote

Amara’s team enters rates, surcharges, and a validity date for an FCL shipment from Shenzhen to Rotterdam. When the date passes, the quote expires instead of becoming last month’s rate by accident.

    02

The booking creates a client-visible file

Once booking is confirmed, the shipment file opens with container, vessel, and cutoff dates. It appears in the shipper’s portal immediately with status set to booked.

    03

    Documents collect under the shipment

The client uploads the packing list. The office adds the bill of lading and commercial invoice. Everyone looks at one document set instead of searching email threads.

    04

Milestone emails send from the update

When the shipment sails, Amara flips the milestone. The portal updates and an ETA email goes out from the office template without anyone retyping the status.

    05

Exceptions show up before the client calls

If a shipment sits at customs too long, the exception report names it the next morning, with the current milestone and linked broker documents.

    06

The invoice closes the shipment loop

After delivery, proof of delivery lands on the file. The freight invoice goes out with the shipper’s tax ID and a pay link, and paid status returns to the shipment record.

Describe the logistics platform you want to build

Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include modes, lanes, milestones, documents, client access, and billing. Here are three to build on:

    kliv.dev

    Ocean freight desk

FCL and LCL shipment files with milestone tracking.

“Build a freight forwarding app for our Rotterdam office. Track FCL and LCL shipment files from booking to delivery, store bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list, and certificates per shipment, give each shipper organization a portal for only its own cargo, send milestone emails, and issue freight invoices with tax IDs and online payment links.”

    kliv.dev

    Air cargo office

Air waybill files on a faster timeline.

“Build an air cargo management app with air waybill records, flight-level milestones, dangerous-goods flags per shipment, same-day status emails to shippers, document uploads for commercial paperwork, and an exception report for shipments that miss a milestone.”

    kliv.dev

    Customs broker portal

    Declarations, documents, and release status.

“Build a customs brokerage portal where importers upload commercial documents per entry, follow clearance status, receive an email the moment goods are released, and download the final declaration package from their own organization portal.”

    How it comes together

The exception report starts the day. A scheduled job checks open shipments before the office opens and emails the desk only what needs attention: files idle at customs, slipped ETAs, and invoices past due. Quiet shipments stay quiet.

The agent answers from the right rows. A shipper can ask “where is PO-4471?” inside their portal. The answer comes from that shipper’s own shipment rows — ETA, last milestone, and linked documents — not from anyone else’s cargo. The transcript stays in your database.

Tax and invoices stay tied to the shipment. Register the jurisdictions you invoice in, print B2B clients’ tax IDs on every document, and produce file-ready reports at quarter end.

A forwarding platform is an internal tool that faces clients. Internal tools on Kliv explains the broader pattern.

    Common questions

    What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI app builder. You describe the software you need, it builds the working app, and you own the result. For this page, that means shipment files, milestone tracking, document portals, quotes, invoices, and exception reporting.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. Kliv builds the data, rules, and screens for your specific case, not a pre-made theme you fill in. You keep changing it by describing what you want different.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. Ask for changes in plain words and Kliv updates the app. You can adjust fields, workflows, pages, emails, access rules, and reports without starting over.

Can one shipper see another shipper’s cargo?

No. Shipments belong to shipper organizations, and the database applies that ownership on every read. A guessed shipment reference outside the organization returns nothing.

    Do milestones update by hand?

They can be one-click updates at the desk, or imports you describe from files your carriers already send. The portal, client email, and exception report update from the same milestone row.

    What keeps quotes honest?

Validity is a date on the quote. The booking flow checks it, so an expired quote must be re-quoted instead of being accepted at an old rate.

Can clients pay freight invoices online?

Yes. Invoices can include a pay link backed by your own Stripe account, with the client’s tax ID printed for their accounts-payable team.

Do my shippers need their own Stripe accounts?

No. They pay by card through your invoice link. The payment goes through the account you connect.

    Can clients download their documents?

Yes. Documents attach to the shipment and appear in that shipper’s portal according to the access rules you set.

Can the app send milestone emails?

Yes. A milestone update can send an email on your template with the current status and ETA.

    Can it handle exceptions?

Yes. You can define rules for stuck shipments, slipped ETAs, or past-due invoices and send an exception report to the desk.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. The platform can run on your own domain, including the shipper portal.

Do I need a separate document portal?

No. The app is the portal: shipment records, files, access rules, and client views live together.
