Build a booking and reservation system

Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your shared-space booking rules — hourly reservations, induction-gated machines, included plan hours, and paid overage — and it builds the app around them.

What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t a booking widget you configure — it’s an AI that builds software for you.

You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the rules, the screens, and the checkout where you need one. What you get is a real app that’s yours. You can use it, change it later by asking, and run payments on your own Stripe account. It isn’t a template with your name on it.

On this page, that app is a booking and reservation system for shared spaces, machines, rooms, and membership plans. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.

Why shared spaces need more than a calendar

A maker space with 240 members and one laser cutter needs more than open time slots. The system has to know that the laser requires an induction, that the spray booth closes for filter changes, and that the Maker plan includes 20 machine-hours before overage starts.

A rented booking widget can sell a slot, but it often leaves the real rules on signs, spreadsheets, and front-desk memory. Kliv builds the reservation system and the rules together, so the machine, the member, the induction, and the plan live in the same database. The calendar refuses what your rules refuse.

What Kliv handles for the workshop

The booking app keeps the records that make a shared space work.

Machines and rooms

Each machine or room has bookable hours, slot length, and maintenance windows that block the calendar. If the CNC is down for Tuesday service, Tuesday slots are unavailable.

Reservations

Each slot belongs to one member. A second booking over the same hour is rejected by the database, so two people cannot hold the same machine at the same time.

Inductions

Passing the laser induction creates a certification record for that member and machine. Without it, the member can see the laser calendar but cannot book it.

Plans and included hours

The Maker plan can include 20 machine-hours a month. Reservations spend against that allowance, and hour 21 is billed at the rate you set.

Incidents and downtime

A jammed spindle can take a machine off the calendar and email every member with an affected slot, with rebooking open.

An example: Nadia’s maker space

Here’s how one shared space might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own machines, memberships, inductions, and booking rules.

01

A new member joins online

Nadia’s new member signs up through checkout on the space’s own Stripe account. Booking opens immediately for the wood shop and 3D printers, but not for the laser yet.

02

The induction unlocks the laser

On Saturday, the instructor marks the laser induction as passed from a phone. The certification record is created, and the laser calendar becomes bookable for that member.

03

Plan hours spend automatically

In week two, the member books three evening laser slots. Each reservation uses included machine-hours, and the remaining balance appears before the member confirms.

04

A conflict is refused

Two members try to book Thursday at 19:00 on the CNC. The first gets the slot; the second is offered the next available time. There is no state where both hold the same hour.

05

The invoice explains the overage

At month end, the member used 24 hours: 20 included and 4 over. The overage lines appear beside the plan on the invoice, from the same reservation records that booked the time.

06

Renewal runs without the desk

The plan renews and hours reset. If a card has expired, retries and recovery emails run before Nadia’s front desk has to chase anything.

Describe what you want to build

Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include the spaces, the rules, who can book what, and how payment should work. Here are three to build on:

kliv.dev

Machine-hour booking

Inductions, included plan hours, and paid overage.

“Build a machine reservation app for our maker space. Members should book machines in one-hour slots, each machine should have its own induction requirement, the Maker plan should include 20 hours per month, and extra hours should be billed at €6 per hour on monthly invoices.”

kliv.dev

Meeting room reservations

Member rates, day-pass rates, and recurring bookings.

“Build a coworking room booking system with three rooms: Focus Room A at $12 per hour for members, Boardroom at $35 per hour, and a day-pass rate of $50. Let teams make weekly recurring bookings, and show today’s reservations on a lobby screen.”

kliv.dev

Rehearsal room bookings

Hourly rooms, gear add-ons, and monthly invoices.

“Build a rehearsal space booking app where bands reserve rooms by the hour, add a drum kit for $15 and a keyboard for $10, and receive one monthly invoice that summarizes room hours and gear add-ons.”

How it comes together

Access follows membership. Joining, upgrading, and lapsing all change what a member may book. An expired membership stops seeing available slots until payment is fixed.

Usage is priced from the booking itself. If extra machine-hours cost €6 each, the reservation writes the usage and the invoice reads it. Nobody exports a spreadsheet at month end.

You can test a month before you run one. In the Sandbox, you can use test payments and simulated time to join, book, use included hours, lapse, recover, and invoice before any real card is charged.

A shared workshop is also a local business with a public site, events, and neighborhood demand. That broader setup is covered on the local-business solutions page.

Common questions

What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a shared space, that can mean a booking system with machines, rooms, members, inductions, plan hours, and checkout.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. Kliv builds the database, rules, and screens around your space. It isn’t a generic calendar theme you fill in.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. You ask for changes in plain words, such as adding a new machine, changing a plan allowance, or adding a maintenance workflow.

What stops an uninducted member from booking the laser?

The booking check looks for a certification record for that member and that machine. If it is missing, the booking cannot be written. Passing the induction creates the record.

Can we take machines down for maintenance?

Yes. A maintenance window blocks the machine calendar and can email members holding affected reservations with rebooking open.

How do included hours and overage work?

The plan carries an included allowance. Reservations spend against it, and hours beyond it are billed at the per-hour rate you set. Members can see their remaining balance before they confirm.

Do day visitors need a membership?

No. A day pass can be sold through the same checkout and can open the booking calendar for one day, under the rules you define.

Does Kliv take a cut of bookings?

No. Payments run through your own Stripe account. Card processing fees are between you and Stripe.

Do members need their own Stripe accounts?

No. Members just pay by card. Stripe is how the money reaches your account.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. The app can run on your own domain and be live as soon as you build it.

Can I move off Kliv later?

Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.

Do I need a separate admin tool?

No. The app is its own admin. You edit machines, rooms, plans, members, and content while signed in.
