Build a film production dailies portal

Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your production portal — shoot-day galleries, take notes, crew clearances, upload roles, and wrap access — and it builds a dailies system on your own domain.

    What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t a file-transfer product or a fixed review tool — it’s an AI that builds software for you.

You describe the app you need in your own words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the logic, the screens, the file handling, and the access rules. What you get is a real web app that’s yours, on your own domain, and you can change it later by asking. It isn’t a template with upload fields.

On this page, that app is a production dailies portal. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this page focuses on private productions, dailies galleries, notes, crew roles, and archive access.

Why build your own dailies portal?

A file-transfer link moves footage, but it does not know who should see what, which take a note belongs to, or when a crew member’s access should end. A production needs a controlled place for each film, not a shared link that can be forwarded.

Kliv builds the portal around the production: a private space per film, galleries that fill by shoot day, note threads attached to takes, and access that follows the crew list.

    Who sees what, and when

The working parts of a dailies portal, and the rule each one follows.

    Productions

Each film has its own private space for crew, shoot days, galleries, and threads. A colorist on two shows has two memberships, and the shows stay separate.

    Dailies galleries

Each shoot day becomes a gallery of takes. Full-resolution masters stay private in the file store, while browser-friendly proxies are used for review.

    Notes threads

A note belongs to the take it critiques: circle take 4, flag a boom shadow in take 9, and keep the discussion with the same frames.

    Roles and clearances

The DP can see camera originals; a financier can see cuts and the schedule. Clearance is data on the membership, applied wherever that person clicks.

    Shoot days and wrap

Day records tie galleries to the calendar. Departure dates can close a day player’s access when the engagement ends.

    Nightly ingest

The DIT uploads by day and slate. Galleries are built from records, so they do not depend on folder names staying perfect.

    An example: Solveig’s feature shoot

Here’s how one production might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own productions, crew roles, footage rules, and review process.

    01

The DIT uploads the day’s takes

After day 14 wraps, the DIT uploads the takes. Masters land in private storage, proxies generate for review, and each take is filed under its shoot day and slate.

    02

The director leaves notes on takes

The director reviews from a hotel and circles two takes. A note about a gull in take 6 stays attached to take 6, not lost in email.

    03

The editor starts from the same frames

The editor opens the gallery the next morning, reads the circled takes, and replies in the same note threads.

    04

The financier sees only the cleared view

The financier’s login opens approved cuts and the schedule. Raw takes do not appear unless Solveig clears that role for them.

    05

The access log answers later questions

At wrap, the access log can show what the financier’s account fetched: cuts and schedules, not camera originals.

Describe what you want to build

Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include productions, upload roles, note behavior, clearances, and what happens at wrap. Here are three to build on:

    kliv.dev

    Feature dailies portal

Nightly galleries, pinned notes, and separate clearances.

“Build a dailies portal for a six-week feature film. Each production should be private, the DIT should upload nightly galleries by shoot day and slate, directors should leave notes on specific takes, editors should reply in the same threads, DP roles should see camera originals, financiers should see only approved cuts and schedules, and crew access should end on each person’s wrap date.”

    kliv.dev

    Commercial review hub

Versioned cuts, client comments, and sign-off.

“Build a review hub for our commercial studio. Agency clients should watch versioned cuts, leave timecoded comments, approve one version with a recorded sign-off, and see only the projects they were invited to.”

    kliv.dev

    Multi-show studio hub

    Separate productions with lasting archives.

“Build a studio portal where each production is a separate private space with its own crew list, dailies galleries, note threads, schedule, and archive that remains available to producers after wrap.”

    How access works

The production is the boundary. Galleries, threads, schedules, and files all belong to a production. A signed-in person sees only the productions where they have membership.

Masters stay private. Camera originals can stay in private storage while proxies are served for review. Publishing a trailer page or press still is a separate decision, not a side effect of uploading.

Wrap dates matter. Crew records can carry engagement dates, so day-player access can end when the job ends while producers keep the archive.

Notifications can go where the team works. When a gallery finishes building, the production can notify a Slack channel through an authorized connector.

Dailies are one part of media operations. Publishing, streaming, and audience workflows are covered on the media page.

    Common questions

    What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a dailies portal, it builds the production records, upload flow, galleries, note threads, roles, and access rules around your workflow.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. Your productions, crew roles, clearance rules, file records, and review screens are built for your production company.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. You can ask for a new role, a different upload workflow, another archive view, or a changed clearance rule later.

Can a financier see raw takes?

Only if you clear that role for raw takes. Otherwise the financier can see the cuts and schedules you allow, and nothing else.

What happens to access at wrap?

Departure dates can close crew access on schedule. The production archive can remain available to company roles for deliverables and later reference.

    Where does the footage live?

Files live in the production’s file store. Masters can stay private, proxies can be served for review, and the files stay attached to the take records that reference them.

Can two productions share the portal without sharing files?

Yes. Each production is its own space. A person on both productions has separate memberships, and files, threads, and schedules do not cross between them unless your rules allow it.

Can notes attach to a specific take?

Yes. Notes can live on the take record, so review comments stay with the footage they refer to.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. The portal can run on your production company’s own domain.

Do I need a separate CMS?

No. The portal is its own admin for productions, crew lists, galleries, files, schedules, and text.

Can I move off Kliv later?

Yes. The code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull, not a rebuild.

Can the portal keep an audit trail?

Yes. The app can record file access and other actions so later questions can be answered from the records.
