Construction & Home Renovation
Build a contractor client portal with project photos
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe the portal each homeowner should see — progress photos, documents, approvals, and answers from their job file — and it builds it.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a portal template — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the workflow, the screens, and the access rules. What you get is a real web app that’s yours, available on your own domain for clients and staff, and you can change it later by asking. It isn’t a template.
On this page, that app is a private client portal for renovation projects. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.
Why build a client portal?
Homeowners keep asking the same question: what happened this week? Texted photos, emailed PDFs, and shared drives answer it badly. They also scatter the record you need when memories differ about who approved what.
A portal gives each client one private page, fed by the job file you already keep. Photos land by phase, documents show approval states, and questions are answered from that job’s own records. The wall between clients is a database rule, not a folder name.
Inside the job file
The portal is a window onto five kinds of record.
The job file
One home, one file: schedule, contract, selections, change orders, and photos. A homeowner’s login opens their job and no other job.
Progress galleries
Photos upload from the site by phase — demo, framing, rough-in, finish. Originals stay in the file store, optimized versions load for clients, and the gallery is private by default.
Approvals on the record
A change order has states such as sent, viewed, and approved. Approval stores who said yes and when, against the exact document version.
Documents both directions
Contracts, permits, and selection sheets go down; signed forms and inspiration photos come up. Each file inherits the job’s access rule when it lands.
The agent on the job
A question like “when does tile start?” is answered from that job’s schedule and documents only. Conversations are stored so the builder can see what clients asked.
An example: Samira’s remodeling company
Here’s how one contractor might use a client portal built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own project phases, documents, approvals, and client communication.
The project has a home before work starts
The welcome email gives the homeowners their sign-in. The portal already shows the scope, schedule, and contract before the dumpster arrives.
Weekly photos answer the basic question
On Friday, the site lead uploads demo photos from a phone. The homeowners get a notification and see the gallery without calling the office.
A change order gets a recorded yes
Opening a wall reveals knob-and-tube wiring. The $3,150 change order goes to the portal, the homeowners approve from home, and the crew proceeds on a recorded approval.
Late questions use the job file
At 10pm, the homeowner asks when countertops go in. The agent reads the schedule and answers from the actual project record.
Handover leaves a clean archive
Final photos, warranty documents, and every approval stay in the portal after the project ends.
Describe the client portal you need
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include project phases, photos, approvals, documents, notifications, and who can see what. Here are three examples:
Remodel client portal
Photos, approvals, documents, and update emails.
“Build a client portal for our remodeling company. Each project should have photo galleries by phase, online change-order approvals, document downloads, weekly update emails every Friday, and homeowner access limited to their own project.”
Custom home portal
A year-long build with decisions and weekly photos.
“Build a portal for our custom home clients. Include weekly photo updates by construction phase, a decision tracker for selections with due dates, document downloads, and private notes from the project manager.”
Landscaping projects
Before-and-during photos, design approvals, and schedules.
“Build a client portal for our landscaping company. Show before-and-during photo galleries, let clients approve landscape designs online, and give each client a schedule view for their own project only.”
How it comes together
The wall between clients is row-level security. Each homeowner account is scoped to its job in the database. A mistyped or forwarded link to another project shows nothing.
Photos use the file store. Site uploads land full-resolution, get optimized for delivery, and inherit the job’s access rule automatically.
The agent is grounded in the job. It reads the schedule rows and documents the signed-in client is allowed to see, and nothing more. Every exchange is stored for review.
Notifications carry the rhythm. When photos land or a document needs a signature, the portal emails the client from your address, in your wording.
The portal is the client-facing edge of a services business. Kliv for services businesses walks the whole shape, from first quote to repeat work.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For a contractor portal, it builds the job records, photo galleries, approvals, documents, client access, and notifications.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. It is built around your project phases, document workflow, approval rules, and client access needs.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. Ask for a new project phase, a different notification, or another approval step, and Kliv updates the portal.
Can clients see each other’s projects?
No. Each account is scoped to its own job by row-level rules in the database.
How do photos get from the site to the portal?
The site lead uploads from a phone browser, directly to the job and phase. The file store keeps originals, serves optimized versions, and applies the job privacy rule.
What does the agent actually know?
It knows the signed-in client’s job file: schedule, documents, selections, and change orders. It answers from those records only.
What happens after handover?
The portal stays as the job archive, including final photos, warranties, and approvals with timestamps.
Can clients approve change orders online?
Yes. A change order can show sent, viewed, and approved states, with approval tied to the exact document version.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The portal can run on your own domain.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The app’s code syncs to your own Git repository, and records and files are exportable.
Do clients need to install an app?
No. The portal is a web app they open in a browser.
