Build an AI-powered legal document generation and management system
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe your firm’s document workflow, and it builds matters, template assembly, versions, partner approval, precedent search, and client delivery.

What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a generic document automation tool with fixed workflows — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: matter records, templates, assembly logic, versions, approvals, client delivery, and payments if needed. What you get is a real app that’s yours. You can run it on your own accounts, use your own Stripe account for fixed-fee work, and change it later by asking. It isn’t a template.
On this page, that app is a legal document generation and management system. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example.
Why build your own document system?
A firm’s documents are not just files. They belong to matters, parties, deadlines, approvals, and years of precedent. Generic document tools can store files, but they may not know why a clause exists or who must approve release.
Kliv can build the system around the practice: firm templates, intake answers, versioned matter files, approval gates, precedent search, and private client delivery.
What the practice remembers
The app stores documents as part of matters, parties, versions, and decisions.
Matters and parties
Every document belongs to a matter. The matter stores parties, team, deadlines, and access rules.
The template set
Firm precedents become structured templates with variables and conditional options. A typed server-side function assembles the draft from intake answers.
Versions
Every generation and edit becomes a version with author and timestamp. Nothing is overwritten.
Release states
Draft, reviewed, and released are states in the database. The client download exists only after approval.
The precedent assistant
The assistant retrieves from the firm’s own indexed matters and templates and quotes firm language back for lawyers to judge.
Client delivery
Released packages appear in a private client space. Clients see their documents, not the internal workflow.
An example: Sandberg & Osei’s lease practice
Here’s how one firm might use a legal document system built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own matters, templates, approvals, and client delivery rules.
Intake becomes matter data
The client completes a questionnaire. Term, premises, parties, and break options land as structured fields on the matter.
The first draft assembles from firm clauses
Template plus fields creates a lease draft. The associate starts from clause language the firm controls, not from the last deal’s find-and-replace.
Edits become versions
The associate changes the break notice period. The version log records who touched it, when, and what it said before.
Partner approval opens delivery
A partner reviews and approves. Until that state changes, the client-facing download is not available.
The matter joins the precedent library
The client downloads from a private space. When the signed copy returns, it is filed to the matter and becomes searchable for future work.
Describe what you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include documents, variables, matter access, approval gates, and delivery. Here are three to build on:
Commercial lease packages
Intake to partner-approved release.
“Build a document system for commercial lease packages where intake questionnaires assemble lease drafts from our clause templates, every version lives on the matter file, matter access is limited to the assigned team, and release requires partner approval.”
Immigration filing bundles
Checklists, case status, and client uploads.
“Build a filing-bundle system that assembles application packages from our checklists, tracks each case’s document status, lets clients upload evidence into their own private space, and requires attorney review before final delivery.”
Estate planning workflow
Questionnaires into attorney-reviewed drafts.
“Build an estate-documents workflow where questionnaire answers assemble will and trust drafts from our precedents, every draft is versioned on the matter, and attorney sign-off is required before a client can download it.”
How it comes together
Assembly is code. Draft generation can run in typed TypeScript server functions, with reviewable and testable logic. A Scenario test can walk intake, partner approval, and client download against a temporary copy of data and record what was allowed.
The corpus compounds. Every closed matter can improve precedent retrieval because search runs over the firm’s own documents. The assistant finds and quotes; lawyers decide.
Fixed fees can be collected first. Productized work can go through checkout on the firm’s own Stripe account, such as a €450 lease-review package, with the matter opening when payment lands.
Document generation is often one part of a services business. Proposals, portals, and retainers are covered on the services solutions page.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI that builds custom web apps from a description. For legal documents, it can build matter files, templates, assembly logic, versions, approvals, precedent search, and client delivery.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the database, screens, matter access rules, assembly flow, and approval gates around your firm’s workflow.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. Add templates, change variables, revise approval states, or add client-delivery rules by asking for changes.
Is the assistant practicing law?
No. It retrieves and quotes the firm’s own templates and past matters. Lawyers decide what to use and what advice to give.
Who can see a matter?
The assigned team. Access can be enforced per row so another matter’s URL or ID does not expose its contents.
We already have templates in Word. How do they get in?
Upload them and describe the variables. Start with the documents you assemble most often, then add more as needed.
Can clients pay before work starts?
Yes. Fixed-fee packages can go through checkout on the firm’s own Stripe account, and the matter can open after payment lands.
Can every edit be versioned?
Yes. Generations and edits can create versions with author and timestamp so old language is not overwritten.
Can partner approval be required before release?
Yes. Client delivery can stay unavailable until a partner changes the release state.
Can clients upload evidence or signed copies?
Yes. A private client space can accept uploads and file them to the right matter.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The app source can sync to your own Git repository, and your matter records, templates, and files remain yours.
Can precedent search stay limited to our firm’s documents?
Yes. The assistant can retrieve from the templates and matters you provide rather than from public legal material.
