Build an AI chatbot and virtual assistant

Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe the AI chatbot and virtual assistant you need, and it builds an agent that answers from your documents, reads only the signed-in user’s data, and keeps every transcript.

    What is Kliv?

Kliv isn’t a chat widget you paste onto a site — it’s an AI that builds software for you.

You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the database, the screens, the knowledge base, the permissions, and the actions the assistant may take. What you get is a real app that’s yours, on your own domain, and you can change it later by asking. It isn’t a template or a script.

On this page, that app includes an AI assistant inside your product. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; assistants are one useful shape.

Why build an agent instead of a chat widget?

Most chat widgets can only repeat prepared answers. Ask something tied to a real account, such as “can I move my Saturday booking?”, and the answer becomes “contact support” because the widget cannot see the booking and cannot change it.

Kliv builds the assistant inside the app. It can answer from documents you wrote, read only the signed-in user’s own records, and take only the actions you explicitly grant, such as moving a booking when seats are available.

    What the agent works with

An agent is defined by what it may know, what it may see, and what it may do.

    The knowledge base

Your trip guides, gear lists, policies, and help documents are semantically indexed when you upload them. Questions are answered from those documents, not from the open internet.

    The user’s own records

The agent reads what the signed-in customer may read, such as their bookings and waivers. The same row rules that protect app pages also protect agent answers.

    Granted capabilities

The assistant acts only through capabilities you grant: look up a departure, move a booking if seats exist, or resend a confirmation. If you did not grant an action, it cannot do it.

    The transcript

Every conversation is stored in your database. If a customer says the assistant told them something, you can read the exact exchange.

    The handoff

When a request needs a person, such as a refund or a large group, the agent files it with the transcript attached so support starts with the full context.

    An example: Lena’s kayak-tour company

Here’s how one tour business might use an AI assistant built with Kliv. It’s only an example — you would describe your own policies, knowledge base, booking rules, and limits.

    01

A paddler gets an answer after hours

At 9:41 p.m., a paddler asks what to wear for the Thursday sunset tour in April. The assistant answers from Lena’s gear guide: drysuit provided, bring wool layers.

    02

The assistant checks only her booking

The paddler asks to move to Saturday. Because she is signed in, the assistant reads her booking for two seats on Thursday, and it reads only hers.

    03

A safe change happens without staff online

Saturday has three seats free, so the booking moves, the record updates, and a confirmation sends on Lena’s email template. If Saturday were full, the assistant would offer the next two open departures.

    04

The transcript lands beside the booking

The whole exchange is stored beside the paddler’s booking. Support has context, Lena has a record, and the assistant is accountable for what it did.

    05

The morning review improves the next answer

Over coffee, Lena reads the overnight log. The gear guide needs one clearer sentence, so she adds it, and the next after-hours answer is better.

    Describe the assistant you want

Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Say what the assistant should know, what records it may read, what actions it may take, and when it should hand off. Here are three to build on:

    kliv.dev

    Tour booking assistant

    Grounded answers and real rebooking.

“Build an assistant for our kayak tour company. It should answer from our trip guides, gear lists, and cancellation policy, look up only the signed-in customer’s own booking, move the booking to another departure when enough seats are open, send a new confirmation email, and hand off refunds or groups over eight people to staff.”

    kliv.dev

    Salon rebooking agent

    Aftercare answers and appointment moves.

“Build an agent for our salon. It should answer pricing and aftercare questions from our own documents, show signed-in clients only their own appointments, rebook appointments when the stylist has an open slot, and create a staff task when a client asks for a refund or color correction.”

    kliv.dev

    Course helper agent

    Syllabus answers and private progress.

“Build an assistant for our online course. It should answer from the syllabus and lesson notes, show each student only their own progress and assignments, suggest the next lesson, and send questions it cannot answer to the instructor with the transcript attached.”

    How it comes together

Grounding starts with your documents. You author what the assistant knows. Updating its knowledge is editing or uploading a document, not retraining anything.

Scope uses the app’s existing rules. The assistant sees what the signed-in user may see, enforced at the database. A guessed booking ID returns nothing to the assistant, just as it would to a page.

The behavior is testable before launch. A Scenario test can sign in, ask the assistant to move a booking to a full departure, and check that the write is refused and the reason is recorded, using a throwaway copy of the data.

Assistants are one shape of a larger idea: agents that work inside your app, under your rules, on your data. Take the deeper tour at the agents page.

    Common questions

    What exactly is Kliv?

Kliv is an AI app builder. You describe the app and assistant you need, and it builds the software around that description: records, screens, permissions, knowledge base, and agent actions.

Do I get a real app, or a template?

A real app. The assistant runs inside an app built for your data and rules, not a generic widget with your logo on it.

Can I change it after it’s built?

Yes. You can ask for changes in plain words, such as adding a new document source, changing what the agent may do, or adding a handoff rule.

How is this different from the chat widget we already have?

A widget usually repeats prepared answers. This agent can answer from documents you wrote, read the signed-in user’s permitted records, take the actions you grant, and store a transcript.

What stops it from exposing someone else’s data?

The same row-level security that protects every app page binds the agent. It can only read records the signed-in user is allowed to read.

What happens when it does not know the answer?

It says it does not know and hands the thread to a person with the transcript attached. The gap is visible in the log, so the fix is usually adding or editing a document.

    What actions can it take?

Only the actions you grant as capabilities, such as looking up an order, moving a booking, resending a confirmation, or filing a request.

Can I test the assistant before customers use it?

Yes. You can run Scenario tests that use the assistant like a customer would and verify that allowed actions work and blocked actions stay blocked.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. The app can run on your own domain and go live as soon as you build it.

Can I move off Kliv later?

Yes. The app’s code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.

    Do I need a separate help-desk tool?

Not for the basic handoff. The assistant can file a request with the transcript attached inside the app you build.
