Build a custom license management and key generation system
Kliv is an AI app builder. Describe how your software licensing should work, and it builds signed keys, activation checks, revocation, and a customer portal.
Just enter your idea into the text box and AI will build it for you
What is Kliv?
Kliv isn’t a licensing vendor with a fixed workflow — it’s an AI that builds software for you.
You describe the app you need in plain words, and Kliv builds it: the data, the logic, the screens, and the server functions. You own the result, run it on your own accounts, and can change it later by asking. It isn’t a template or a hosted dashboard you rent.
On this page, that app is a license management and key generation system. Kliv builds all kinds of web apps; this is one example for software you sell.
Why a keygen script is not a license business
A license key is only one part of selling software. The harder part is the ledger around it: purchases, seats, machines, maintenance dates, refunds, chargebacks, and revocations.
Kliv builds the ledger and storefront as one app. Checkout, the customer portal, the activation endpoint, and the key-minting function all read the same records, so a license is more than a string in an email.
What a key answers for
A license is a record with history. These are the parts the system can check.
The license
Product, edition, seat count, and the purchase that created it live on the license row. The key string is derived from that row.
The activation ledger
Each activation records a machine fingerprint and timestamp. A two-machine license refuses the third activation by count.
The customer portal
Customers can see their keys, active machines, maintenance status, and the button that frees an old machine seat.
The minting function
A typed TypeScript server function signs each key. The signing secret sits in the platform vault, outside the source.
Maintenance and updates
A perpetual license can keep running while the update feed depends on a dated maintenance entitlement.
Revocation
A refund or chargeback flips the license row, and the next activation check reads that state. There is no blacklist file to ship.
An example: Lena’s audio plugin studio
Here’s how one software business might use it. It’s only an example — you would describe your own products, keys, seats, update terms, and activation rules.
Checkout creates the signed key
Lena’s customer buys the Studio Edition for $179. The same transaction creates the license row, signs the key, and sends the delivery email with the portal link.
Two machines fill the seat limit
The customer activates a studio desktop and a laptop. The ledger now shows two of two machine seats, each with its fingerprint and date.
A dead machine is handled by the customer
When the desktop motherboard dies, the customer signs into the portal, frees that machine’s seat, and activates the replacement without a support email.
Maintenance controls updates, not ownership
The $59 yearly maintenance period expires. The plugin keeps running, but the download page stops offering new builds until the renewal clears.
A refund changes the next check
If Lena approves a refund or a chargeback is flagged, the license row is revoked. The key string still exists, but the next activation check reads the row and refuses it.
Describe what you want to build
Kliv builds from your description, so the more detail you give, the closer the first version. Include products, prices, activation limits, update terms, refunds, and portal rules. Here are three to build on:
Plugin license portal
Keys, seats, and self-serve deactivation.
“Build a licensing site for my audio plugin. Sell Studio Edition for $179 through my Stripe account, generate a signed key at checkout, limit each license to two machines, let buyers deactivate old machines from a portal, and send the key plus portal link by email.”
Per-seat team licenses
One company license with a seat pool.
“Build team licensing for my desktop tool. A company buys a 10-seat Business license for $899 a year, an admin assigns seats to named users, unassigned seats return to the pool, and the license check refuses the eleventh active user.”
Trial keys that expire
Fourteen days, then upgrade email.
“Build trial licensing for my desktop app. Visitors request a 14-day trial key with email verification, the activation check reads the expiry date from the license row, expired trials stop activating, and the customer gets an upgrade offer for the $129 Pro license.”
The server side of a serial number
The mint is auditable code. Key generation runs as a typed server function: validate the purchase, derive the key, sign it, and file the row. The app’s source also syncs to a Git repository under the studio’s name, so the signing function can be inspected.
Commerce and licensing share the same records. The $179 purchase, the $59 maintenance renewal, and the license row all live together on your own Stripe account. Approving a refund can revoke the license in the same workflow.
The activation endpoint follows your rules. Offline grace periods, seat counts per edition, stricter fingerprints, and maintenance windows are your rules as code and data.
Licensing is the checkout end of a software business. Plans, trials, and metered usage are covered at Kliv for SaaS builders.
Common questions
What exactly is Kliv?
Kliv is an AI app builder. You describe the custom web app you need, it builds it, and you own the result. For licensing, that means checkout, signed keys, activation checks, customer portals, and revocation rules.
Do I get a real app, or a template?
A real app. Kliv builds the database, server functions, screens, and workflows for your licensing rules.
Can I change it after it’s built?
Yes. You can change seat counts, add editions, adjust maintenance rules, add offline activation, or change portal behavior later.
What happens on a refund or chargeback?
A refund waits for your approval. When approved, the license row can flip to revoked, and the next activation check reads that row. Chargebacks can follow the same path with a flag for review.
What about machines that never come online?
Offline activation is a rule you decide. You can issue an offline activation file from the portal or allow a grace window between checks.
Can I import licenses I already sold?
Yes. Existing keys can become license rows with products, customers, machines, and maintenance dates filled from your spreadsheet.
Do customers need an account to use their key?
The key can arrive by email and work without a portal login. The portal matters for freeing seats, downloading builds, and renewing maintenance.
Do customers need their own Stripe accounts?
No. Customers pay by card. Payments run through your own Stripe account.
Does Kliv take a cut of license sales?
No. Payments run on your Stripe account. Card processing costs are between you and Stripe.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. The license portal can run on your own domain.
Can I move off Kliv later?
Yes. The app’s code syncs to your own Git repository, so leaving is a git pull rather than a rebuild.
